i found it great on my PC. I used photoshop tutorials to use it as well, they are very similar. I have recently upgraded to an imac though and GIMP was not as stable (seems a common problem) so had to delete it.
Yes, I tried this one as well. It's good with lots of applications but as JamieT said, it's a bit unstable. It takes awhile to load on my PC as well...

I believe it can be calibrated too via debug mode. Not for individual lenses though
How can I do that? I only have the 18-55 mm lens that came with it and the 70-300 mm Tamron Telephoto/Macro lens in my collection... I still want to practice though before I'll try the expensive ones...

Hi.

It might be best if you can post a couple of examples in order to illustrate the problem you're having.

Hi! Thank you for your post. Where can I post my photos in this forum? forgive me, most of the times I just check the gallery and recent forums.... Usually, I try to do some PP tweaking with the contrast and saturation to make my photos better... But I envy those who take sharp pictures without the added effort...

When using MF, are you ensuring the focus indicator (little green hexagon in the viewfinder) is lit up before taking your picture?

Is Shake Reduction turned off?
Yes I always wait until I see a green light before clicking and I always have the SR on. Sometimes as well, photos look so sharp in the camera but when I check them in a big monitor they're not as good...

Hello guys! I have been using my Pentax K-x for almost 9 months now and I just realized I usually get soft pictures with the AF on and it's difficult to get sharp photos with MF as well... Is this a usual problem with k-x? or are there settings which I can do to avoid this problem? Reviews usually say that k-x have good picture quality...

I'm a beginner and I love the fact that I can always do some post production fiddling with my photos if I'm not happy with them. After reading through Davex's thread on his Iceland shots, I have also thought I would have probably done some tweaking myself if it were my photo (though the original is lovely in itself)... But then, sometimes, I am more satisfied if I get the photo I wanted with just my camera settings and no photoshop adjustment(which may sometimes mean trial shots and lots and lots of patience)...

Hhhmmmmmmm... This brings me to a question, what really is photography? Where's the fun and pride in taking pictures if we can at any point alter what we have photographed? And if some editing is allowed in photography, up to what extent is acceptable before we are no longer producing photographs but graphic art?

Oh that old chestnut again You are correct, of course. Bokeh historically refers to the 'character' of the OOF discs, not the actual shape or size. So OOF discs with brighter edges caused by spherical aberration would be 'bad' bokeh, and discs that are uniformly bright in a lens with no aberration would be 'perfect' bokeh. In practice however we tend to prefer discs that have blurry edges (which seems to be what is happening in Snappy's photo).

However it seems to be pretty much generally accepted these days to use bokeh to refer to the character or smoothness of any OOF background in it's entirety. That's how I use the word anyway, it's a lot quicker than constantly typing out 'oof background discs' or 'circles of confusion'.
very enlightening Tim! I was confused myself as I was reading through the thread... thank you!!

Lovely capture Snappy! I tried getting a shot like this myself but I just can't do it spot on without a tripod... I wish I had steady hands to hold my camera...

Hello Simon! Are the Triplus APk extension tubes compatible with K-x and 18-55 mm DAL lens kit? I'm not really familliar with such but I reckon the extension tubes might be useful later on and the price is irresistible. Thanks!

Thank you very much everyone. You have all been very helpful. I have now made up my mind, I'll just have to try the DAL 55-300mm for awhile and just upgrade later on when I'm better at photography and am sure what I really want from my pictures. Cheers!
