I think 500 is just a little too tight for the Imax screen
Maybe, but just think how far away the projector could be

Are you saying that Imax use Tamron lenses?

I used to part-own and run a six screen cinema and a good projection lens was a vital element

The Tamron is very good when used with care.
Is it still manufactured? Can't find anything new online.

There are some cheap and arather dire 500mm mirror lenses, but as far as I know you should be OK with Tamron, Vivitar, Pentax for longer ones of course but expensive, Tokina and possibly others.
John, thanks for your comments. Regarding teleconvertors, I read that they are not suitable for zoom lenses from less than 70mm. If I were to use my 28-300 Sigma but stay above ~70mm would that be OK? I note that Sigma's own teleconvertors are "not compatible" with either of my Sigma lenses or is that to do with with this minimal focal length?

I had all this kit with my Pentax ME super all those years ago........

Many years ago I had a 500mm mirror lens, I think Vivitar and it produced some fairly good images. Are they any better today and what please would be a good make?

Or, would a teleconverter with my Sigma 28-300 be a better idea?

Gwyn, I understand that the indigenous people of La Palma were only ever able to see the snow capped peak of Mount Teide in the distance so they called it White Mountain (tiner=mountain; ife=white)!!

We are going back to TFS in September this year and planning a few days on La Gomera then a week near Los Gigantes. Do you have any photos to view of La Palma?

There's much more than sand, sea and ***

This view was taken about 6,000 feet above sea level, part way up Mount Teide, a dormant volcano and shows the islands of La Gomera (left) and La Palma. The foreground is pure lava populated by conifers and the air temperature was 26°C even at that altitude!
