Nice assortment there Bob. Nothing wrong with the kit lens, it's picked the trees up well on the 2nd and 3rd. Really like the sky on the 2nd. The sunsets nice as well.

#2 and #4 are nice, Bob.

Maybe a crop along the bottom of #4 to limit most of that 'black' area and give more emphasis on the sunset silhouette.

Excellent shots. You seem (like me ) to have one of the better examples of the kit lens. I agree about the crop with the sunset, great positioning of the tree. The one of the wooden balustrade would work better if you could have got the wood from the front in focus. You'd need to calculate the hyperfocal distance as Pentax doesn't make a tilt/shift lens. On older manual lenses with depth of field markings it was easy. I like the cog photo, and the herb robert is nice and sharp.

You are spot on with your opinion of the wooden balustrade. I was trying to get the detail in everything so that you could see the grain in the wood all the way up; but I think it would have been better with a wider aperture and a focus weighted more to the foreground.

I could'nt resist another shot of the Herb Robert too!

The cog was part of an old derelict water mill I stumbled on when going for a walk; an interesting find indeed.

I felt that a lot of the sky and drama was missin' in your crop above.

Ah! I get you; yeah this is better still. I would'nt have thought of this as I was keeping the trees in the center; but this works.

I've cropped it based on that now, but brought the trees a tiny bit more towards the center
