Hi all,

Some of you may remember my post from a while back about picking up some cameras and lenses from my dad back in Canada. Well, I have and now I need to figure out the value of it for insurance purposes. Due to circumstances I need to determine a value quite quickly. Below is a list of what I have and my estimation of replacement value. I just haven't been around this equipment long enough to know for certain its true value. Am I far off? If so, what adjustments should I make?

Bodies:
Pentax ME Super Body - £50
Pentax MX Body - £70

Lenses:
Pentax f/1.2 50mm - £250
Pentax-M f/1.4 50mm - £120
Vivitar Series 1 f/3.5 70-210mm - £70
Vivitar f/2.8 28mm Wide Angle - £30
Sigma 2X1:1 Tele-Macro Adaptor - £40

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Sorry for not being overly active, but it is kind of hard with my Canon DSLR getting all the attention at the moment. I am heading home in two weeks and so will be bringing back the aforementioned Pentax kit back to the UK with me in a little over a month's time. I plan on getting some film as soon as I am home in Canada to play with it, and I am taking a trip to Germany on my way back to the UK, where I think it will get some use as well.

All that being said, I don't think I will be keeping the f/1.2 lens and will be offering it up for sale probably. After discussions with my dad, he is ok with that as long as I am putting it towards other photographic endeavors, which I will be - an UWA lens for my DSLR. I think the f/1.4 lens will be enough for my film adventures, especially considering that I find the DOF with my current 1.8 to be extremely shallow. I will obviously have to re-evaluate once I have used the kit, but that is my initial plan at the moment.

I look forward to being a member of this welcoming forum very soon. I always appreciate the advice and opportunities that such places provide - they truly are invaluable.

I think he does actually. My dad keeps up on his tech toys and so I have a feeling he knows that he has some good kit. I think he would just prefer me using them then selling them off - and it is very likely that my mom is telling him they are taking up room and just sitting there and to get rid of them lol.

Yup, I will be picking up a nice bottle of scotch at duty free on the flight home for sure!

Some of those lenses may operate on a Pentax digital camera body....
Unfortunately I am a Canon man when it comes to my DSLR. Looking at ebay there is a 50mm 1.2 with active bidding at £260 right now. Eesh!

Wow! I didn't know he had that kind of glass with them. He said that he was actually considering selling them soon and so it was good timing that I asked about them, and he said they are mine now to do with what I like.

And ya, they are two 50mm, one for each body.

Thanks again for all the welcomes. My dad is back home and managed to give me an inventory list and a picture. It looks like I am going to have some fun with this as it is an ME Super and the winder is for the MX. Plus, the lenses do look like some good all around lenses to play with and so I don't think I am going to need to invest in anything further at first other than film and batteries. Here is what is in the kit. Any comments/suggestions?

Pentax ME Super Body
Pentax MX Body

Lenses:
Pentax-M f/1.4 50mm
Pentax f/1.2 50mm
Vivitar Series 1 f/3.5 70-210mm Macro Focusing Zoom (Ø 62mm)
Vivitar f/2.8 28mm Wide Angle (Ø 49mm)
Sigma 2X1:1 Tele-Macro Adaptor
UV Filter (Ø 62mm)

Accessories:
Agfa 202 Hot Shoe/Cable Flash
Agfa 352 Cable Flash
MX Motor Winder
Short Shutter Release cable
Hard-side Case
Soft-side Case

Hi everyone!

Just saying a quick hello as I just joined the forum today. I have been bitten by the photography bug pretty hard again as I picked up a DSLR (a Canon shhhhh) at the beginning of the year, after using P&S cameras for the last while since taking a photography course in high school some 15-16 years ago. Now that I am shooting with an SLR again and loving it, it got me thinking of getting a film SLR on the cheap to play around with as well, but then I realized that my dad may have the cameras he lent me when I took that course all those years ago. I contacted him and sure enough he still does!

When I asked my dad if he still had the camera he replied with "Yes. two of them. a Pentax ME & MX. I still have all the lenses - super wide 7 wide angle, super fast 35mm, telephoto, X2 adapter, motor winder for one of the bodies and a couple of flashes." I couldn't get any more details as he was heading out the door for a trip, but he is going to get me details and photos of the kit this weekend, hopefully, and so I will know more soon.

I am heading back to Canada for a visit in May and I plan on picking up the cameras and kit when I am there and bringing them back with me. It might be a heavy load back as I will be bringing my DSLR kit with me there and will be coming back with 3 cameras instead of 1 hehe. I am excited to get my hands on them and so I figured I would join this forum to learn as much as I can beforehand so that I can start to enjoy them as soon as I can.

I look forward to being part of the forum and please bear with me if some of my questions are a bit noobish, but it has been a long while since I have used film.
