Some progress. I think my problem was caused by having the flash to close to the subject, the distance sensor on the Metz must be picking this up, I'm sure someone will correct me if this is/was not the case. I had better results with the Metz placed further away from the subject and I've also tried "M" servo mode with the below settings with on board flash set to PTTL, you will have to adjust the EV on the Metz to get the correct exposure. Wish I still had my light meter
K5 - Mode "M" Shutter 1/125 Aperture f2.8 ISO-100 on board flash as commander EV 0. Metz 50AF-1 set to "SL" EV 0. Bounced off ceiling, Subject distance 8ft.
Exposure Underexposed.
K5 - Mode "M" Shutter 1/125 Aperture f2.8 ISO-100 on board flash as commander EV 0. Metz 50AF-1 set to "SL" EV 1. Bounced off ceiling, Subject distance 8ft.
Exposure not perfect but better.
K5 - Mode "M" Shutter 1/125 Aperture f2.8 ISO-100 on board flash as commander EV 1. Metz 50AF-1 set to "SL" EV 1. Bounced off ceiling, Subject distance 8ft.
Correctly Exposed.
K5 - Mode "M" Shutter 1/125 Aperture f2.8 ISO-100 on board flash as Master EV 0. Metz 50AF-1 set to "SL" EV 0. Bounced off ceiling, Subject distance 8ft.
Correctly Exposed.
So it appears all is well, it just takes a little getting used to, this set up doesn't work as well as Nikon or Olympus, most defiantly not idiot proof, think I'll get my 5 year old grandson to show me how to use it

I had the same dilemma deciding what to buy, Pentax or Tamron?
I've spent weeks reading reviews for Pentax 16-50, Tamron 17-50 & 28-75, most reviews mention that the Pentax is a much better built quality, mindful of this I decided to go for the Tamron 28-75 and must say I'm impressed, IQ is better than what I expected and at half the cost, smooth zoom action and no low light focusing issues, the build quality is no better or worse than Nikon prosumer lenses and I will no doubt purchase the Tamron 70-200 f2.8.
I opted for 28-75 over the 17-50 due to the later having CA & Flair issues when shooting into the light, If I had money burning a hole in my pocket I'd buy Pentax 16-50 & 50-135.

Hi, I haven't used the AF360FGZ. I'm having the same problem with my k5 & Metz 50 AF1, regardless of program mode P, M, Tv or Av, even setting the EV+ on camera & flash, it was underexposing by the same value, I thought at first the pre flash on camera was triggering the Metz on full power, so adjusted the EV to -2 on camera; still no good.
It's really had me scratching my head, my previous Nikon & Olympus flash worked flawlessly in wireless, just set and get on with it. I phoned Metz, no reported problems but they did say that upgrading the firmware on the K5 to 1.11 may have something to do with it? Very helpful explaining how the camera communicates with the flash but just offered a few suggestions.
I set the K5 to M, shutter 1/180 aperture to F5.6 & lens to 50mm and built in flash to controller mode; bounced flash off the ceiling, near perfect exposure. Set built in flash as master, back to square one. I must be overlooking the obvious but worried there may be something wrong with either the flash or camera.
I've only just got the K5 & Metz, so still finding my way around, but as I said never had a problem with Nikon or Olympus. I hope this information is of some help.

I wanted a flash set up where I could be a little more creative on a very tight budget, I plumbed for a Yongnuo YN-560 off e-bay new for £49, I must say I was impressed with the build quality and power of this unit and purchased another one (comes with a storage bag & stand) these are just as good as the Metz at a fraction of the cost.
K5 set to manual mode, shutter to 1/180, ISO-100 and control exposure with the apature. Usualy a setting, F6.5 & F8 gives the correct exposure. set built in flash to wireless mode in either control or master, when using the latter set -EV as required.
Metz 50 - Slave, full power no EV compensation.
Yougnuo YN-560 - set to "S2" which ignores the pre flash, full power no EV compensation.
This set up works flawlesly without the need for wireless triggers or sync cables, only if your working in an environment where other flashes may trigger your flash optically or if you need the range will need the triggers!
Best £98 I've ever spent, and to be honest if I'd have done a little more reserch before I purchased the Metz, I would have bought two Yongnuo and some wireless triggers.
