I'm a Pentax user for quite some time; started with a ME Super in the 80s and now a K10D for quite some time; apparently I am not in for always the latest camera model, I am rather happy with what I have (become used to).
Now my K10D failed and this brought me to this forum, still hoping I can get it fixed, if not I would need to seek advice for the next camera. We will see...

Hi, I just experienced the very same problem; unfortunately the OP did not follow up on telling the end of his story...?Indeed - I wait to see the outcome from the Manila service.
I was taking a picture and then the camera "froze"; LCD display was on but nothing worked anymore.
I took out the battery and back in. Now I only get the flashing battery symbol in the LCD display when turning the camera on.
I have charged and changed the batteries, tried with and without battery grip; the SC card slot switch appears to be working (no flashing battery when slot is open or not SD card inserted); I switched SD cards, nothing changes.
A stuck shutter may be possible (last action was taking a picture, and it is not on the card....), any idea how this could be (easily) fixed?
Happy New Year.

If all things fail, I will need to make some decisions.... full frame K1 vs APS-C; K3 or waiting for a newer model (is there one coming?); stick with Pentax at all (the lack of support in many aspects, e.g. service center, third-party lenses etc. over Canon/Nikon/Sony is sometimes annoying; on the other side being non-mainstream also feels good ; what is it that I want from a new camera (better autofocus!!!), etc. etc.
I suppose this is the right place to explore opinions, learn from experiences and also find some (new/hidden) facts.
But for now, I will focus of getting the K10D fixed when I am back home next week.
