I'm a Pentax user for quite some time; started with a ME Super in the 80s and now a K10D for quite some time; apparently I am not in for always the latest camera model, I am rather happy with what I have (become used to).
Now my K10D failed and this brought me to this forum, still hoping I can get it fixed, if not I would need to seek advice for the next camera. We will see...

hi HK. welcome.

It's a 10 year old camera, so the fault may be terminal and/or the cost of the repair will outweigh the value of the camera. There are 2 options if you like the K10D and want to keep using that model 1) bite the bullet and repair (if it is economically feasible or 2) buy one from the classifieds on here. The other option if you want to change to a newer model is that cameras like the K20D, K7, K5 and K3 can be bought for a reasonable amount on here.

Good luck

K5 is a super camera!
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

i would opt for the k3 it might just be the battery you never know as like any battery they only have a life span off so long depending on where you live and there is another pu near you that might have a k10 that works you could try there battery to see if its that

Thanks for the advice.

If all things fail, I will need to make some decisions.... full frame K1 vs APS-C; K3 or waiting for a newer model (is there one coming?); stick with Pentax at all (the lack of support in many aspects, e.g. service center, third-party lenses etc. over Canon/Nikon/Sony is sometimes annoying; on the other side being non-mainstream also feels good ; what is it that I want from a new camera (better autofocus!!!), etc. etc.

I suppose this is the right place to explore opinions, learn from experiences and also find some (new/hidden) facts.

But for now, I will focus of getting the K10D fixed when I am back home next week.
