I have to admit I think this looks decent, it looks like it would be a nice body with my 31 or 43mm lenses and maybe a nice size too.
That said even the K1 doesn't feel that big with something like the 31mm attached.
Stick a 24mp full frame sensor in that thing and I'd be ordering! Looks like a decent alternative to a Fuji XT2 for a lot of people.
Possibly me included!
If SRS gets a good launch deal I could be in as this could come out around £400 or even more less than an X-T2.
A FF one, yeah why not? Not for me as I gave up carrying boat anchors a long while back but for thems that feel the need, indeed why not.

I admire the marketing genius of Pentax Always one step in front of the buying public...... He's noticed that Pentax users really like a good moan about features and price.... You think Pentax users moan? Try being on he Fuji forums, I've pretty much stopped frequenting those because I got sick of all the problem posts associated with each new release, 99% are caused by the user and the old acronym R.T.F.M. springs to mind, seriously they really can moan...
Fuji have released a lot recently, I think the internet is going to break

All good points there Jules. There's hints of 4K in the KP with its sort of stop go animation feature. Guess they just need to get it to go a bit quicker! (Have you seen this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTPAEXWmfuU ) So the real K-3 successor could come up trumps with that.
There's nothing to dislike about the KP, it gives another option and to users of the K-50 & K-70 will feel quite familiar. At present though it's just seems a bit expensive to be top of any purchase list, but aren't they always on release? We don;t know what the real street price will be until they are actually available.
Very true John! I am hoping that it'll come in at around £900 given the weak pound and the fact that the K3 II was around £800 (I think?), any K3 MkIII or whatever "nom de plume" it appears under will have to be north of a grand street this time I'm afraid. I cannot see Ricoh being able to hold down thw price especially since everyone else seems to have moved their enthusiast APSC models to the $2000 (£1600, though the actual price conversion the UK gets comes out at more like £1750!) price point. Actual street prices are of course a little lower D500=£1549, EOS 7DMkII=£1249 (getting long in the tooth now), GH5= £1699 (pre order), EM1 MkII=£1849 (pre order) but the trend is way up. I'm looking at an X-T2 myself but you really need the grip to eak out the performance which again gets you to around £1700, which to me is just waay to much for APSC. The alternative for me is the X-T20 but it's not weather sealed and at £800 it should be! So I'm coming around to a KP and maybe a K3 MkIII if the price is right or a second KP if the price is err "righter"? My problem with Pentax at the minute is lenses not the bodies, I have been spoiled with the Fujinon glass and some of the Pentax offerings I've used just do not seem to sparkle to me (Everyone elses mileage may vary here)! However given Bills gallery
https://www.pentaxuser.com/user/wvbarnes-10782
of piccies with that new compact 55-300 I am thinking about the 16-85mm and that one for a compact Landscape set up. KP has got me thinking and thats good, If they get the release right it could be, to me at least quite compelling...

You are of course right Richard, I personally don't shoot video but can appreciate a camera that can deal with a swift thruput of lots of data, for that I reckon we will have to wait for the K3 MkIII, which surely must address the 4K video aspect of things? As you say it's long overdue and SR in video with some kind of F-log too would be a good starting point. They would make for unique and strong selling points within the Pentax brand and differentiate it from the lower end bodies while at the same time stealing none of hte K1's thunder, and while they are at it pleeaasse up the flash synch to 1/250th of a second!
Like I said earlier it's basically what Nikon did with the Df, they stuck a D4 sensor in a D600 chassis and prettied it up with dials, and a round eyepiece, raided the parts bin, if you will. KP is not really any different, other than using the latest version of the Sony 24Mp sensor with the mental High ISO rating there really is nothing new here...
It is however growing on me...

I agree with the retro description for the KP, but the flagship Pentax is still the K-1 (or K3ii if discounting FF.) A flagship description makes it sound like top of the range, which it isn't.
One "flagship" to rule them all, one "flagship" to find them, One "flagship" to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

No, it's because it isn't!
It's definitely retro, it's definitely the only one they do, so it's definitely in a class of it's own and therefore by default the "Retro" flagship.
Whether or not you want to call it that is up to you, perhaps "Classic" is better?
Has a nice shutter sound to it, definitely not cheap, and It feels very nice in the hand by the way, very, err... RETRO

mike p you are right none of the stuff you hafe said is on it
srs have had a play with one
tilt screen ( ideal for street photography)
new sencor from sony ( so pentax as tweaked it to see how much iso they can get out of it)
smaller body (so when you put your standerd lenses on it it looks stupid) really its made for the people that have spent a fortune on the limited range of lenses as they look out of place really on a k3ii
really it dose the same as the k3ii if you are going to upgrade you would just go ff
Nail on head, it is basically a Pentax (Nikon) Df but in another sense it is a Pentax (Fuji) X-Pro2, it's specifically aimed at those who like the small and light asthetic, yes I know it weighs a bit and the overall dimensions are similar to the K3 but look at the actual body size/width not the lens mount protrusion. It's almost like an old film camera! It's a hipster digital ME, a street shooters camera, heavy enough to instill the quality vibe and combined with a limited you've got yourself a hipster classic. In it's own way it'll be a hit but it's very much one of a kind and a world away from the K-01 IMHO...

Basically Algi I think it's a Pentax Df! Class of it's own and so it's the "retro" Flagship!
A nice new Limited lens to go with the release would have been nice marketing, alas no...Maybe that range is as complete as it can get or has the DA Limited boat sailed?

http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/products/index.html

I sit corrected, the hierachy is clear from the front page of DSLR cameras on the Ricoh Imaging Japan site, the european site just shows them in chronological order (So consumerist!) To the Japanese order is everything and there the K3II sits clearly one slot above the KP (I must have been nuts! :shock I was believing the hype as a lot of other sites are claiming "flagship status" I should know better as a Fuji user I have the X-Pro2 and X-T2 to choose from both of which are flagships. However six months to possible announcement and maybe a bit more to release brings us to around 18 months from the K1, so could be about right, my own thoughts were that Ricoh would want to squeeze two years from release of the K1 to release of their genuine APSC "flagship" because basically in reality they want you to believe that the K1 is the K3 replacement, partly why they kept the K1 price so low IMHO. I'd be a bit suprised if any eventual K3 MkII replacement ups the anti too much, you'll get 1/8000th shutter/more FPS/better flash sync (Please Pentax) and maybe the K1's AF, small top LCD maybe? All worth having but just the cherry on the cake so to speak by which time of course the K1 MKII with all the new "flagship"is in the wings? Natural progression but Bill I think you'll have to stump up serious cash this time around...

I gave up worrying about AF speed on Pentax a long time ago now, I have Canon gear for that.

Still with Fuji Jules? or have you been through the brands a few more times since we last heard from you 😅
Yeah still with Fuji Mike! There's been a lot of new kit from them too but none of it really excites me any more than my X-T1's really. This little beastie from Pentax however hits a lot of the right notes for me but Ricoh are going to have to do something about the APSC lenses to get me back. They've done little there since the arrival of the mystical unicorn but to be fair on them they did say this would happen. However I still feel they have dropped the ball a bit of late on APSC lens releases...
