Another k-5 mki or mkii

Can't beat working with matching bodies. I prefer to concentrate on my subjects and can only do that with matching bodies.
Yup. when I bought my first K-5, I used my K20D as second body. Kept missing shots as kept forgetting which camera I was using. ending up buying a 2nd K-5 and selling the K20D
For my own purposes however I agree with Smeggy! I'd always prefer two as similar as possible, I may try to pick up a good used K5II to go with my K5IIs when the K3 comes out and everyone dumps theirs...

I use a K30 as a back up to my K5 with no real problem, the different batteries is a bit of a nuisance but not a show stopper.
I use the K30 with a 21mm Ltd for my walkaround kit, it's lighter than K5.
I think thats the only thing that would bug me, it's irrational really but I dislike multiple chargers etc, the AA battery thing with the K30 is useful however and it would be a good idea to get the holder for that. If I was using it as a second shooter, I'd bet I'd forget to charge it the day before the wedding and it'd be flat if I suddenly needed it, (Batteries are only any good if you remember to charge em!) it's only got half the battery of the K5, so sort of a saftey for the saftey really.
I think the fact that your coming from the K5II and onto the K30 is the better way round as the K30 has a simpler interface, and your not having to learn too many new things, just forget that certain things are there at all as with your K5II...
I also got the feeling that the Autofocus on the K30 was a little better indoors than the original K5, it did have a Pentax "Mini" Autofocus update though. I tried my mates K30 recently, and that was the impression I got anyway...

It's a picture thread and you were busy looking at the pictures , so I can't blame you for missing that really,
Just got it, so it's on the camera most of the time while I decide if I like it or not, which I rather think I do!

My only printer decisions have been whether to hit it with a lump hammer or wrap it in C4 and blow it up.
I feel the same way Smeggy! Millstone round my neck and a potential money pit to boot!

All you need now is a dirty great "© MIKE-P PHOTOGRAPHY 2013" splattered all over them ...

Looking at the second shot I think it may well not have been possible to get "ideal!" landscape compositions without ending up in the drink!
Given that, I think the first is fine and the white balance adds to that old mill feel..

You do, do landscape Mike!

No but he has a point, the focus peaking in red on sony's is a bonus and I love the view I've seen of the blue available on the Panasonic GX7, it shows up very clearly indeed, when white would be inappropriate.
Is it possible on the K30 scrreen since it's colour anyway?
If the chip allows peaking why not in colour?
Just asking because frankly I have no idea really!

Regarding name 'rebadging', is it not the case that Ricoh would be better known (amongst the 'general public') for office machinery, and Pentax for cameras - although I wonder if it would be more commonly recalled only by people who remember it from the 'film days' ?(hate that!)

It would seem a good strategy to try and build on that historical knowledge in selling new cameras from now on.
Sony didn't do it but then Sony didn't have any Konica Minolta lines to keep going at the time. Just putting the Ricoh name on all the production would cost them a heap of cash and probably lose them a lot of sales in japan which is nearly 90% of the Pentax market and the brand is pretty popular over there.
I think the Pentax name may well stay at least for the time being but not on the lower end kit, and we'll see a growing presence in a lot more countries. Europe is Pentax's second biggest market at a huge 4.8%!
