I know there are a few film shooters around here so this may be of interest. Finally (!!) someone has put some serious work into developing a Lightroom plug-in for the specialised purpose of digitising negatives "scanned" with a DSLR. As many will know, scanning is very often the most tedious part of a hybrid film/digital workflow, and usually the limiting factor in the quality that can be achieved digitising film photos. I myself have struggled for years to get the best scans from film, without getting to a level of quality I'm happy with.

This plug-in (still in development) seems to finally plug the whole of allowing faster and easier processing of RAW files from a DSLR which has been used to "scan" negatives or slides. I've signed up to be notified when it's available and I don't even use LR - but if this works as well as I hope then I'll have to finally bite the bullet and go to LR. I'm in a Facebook group for digitising film and have seen some results there which look impressive, at least with regards the colour. Sharpness is another issue and FB really isn't capable of showing what this is capable in that regard, but a good DSLR scan with a proper macro lens can be very sharp indeed (much more than a flatbed film scanner).

Everyone has to make their own choices based on what they want from a system.

As I mentioned to someone else on this forum very recently, lots of fun can still be had using old K and M42 mount lenses (or virtually any mount really) on a mirrorless camera.

Anyone thinking about upgrading to a K2, let me know
Do you know something we don't?

I have a K2 DMD but I'm not sure many people would regard it as an upgrade from the K-1...

You mean in your local classifieds?

I'm not interested as I bought a minty one earlier this year, but wow, that's far less than I paid.

That's an M42 mount, similar to the one I already have. There are a handful of PK mount ones on ebay but they cost as much (if not more) than the lens I have and I'm looking for one much cheaper. I can use the M42 one, but if there's a chance of getting a PK mount adapter on it then it'll be more convenient to use.

I've recently acquired an old Vivitar TX mount lens with an M42 mount adapter on it but I'd like to swap that adapter for a Pentax K one, and a Minolta SR one would also be of interest.

TX is an old interchangeable mount system similar to the Tamron adaptall system.

If anyone has one lying around please PM me.

Many thanks

Don't forget you can have lots of fun (and get lots of great photos) adapting old K-mount lenses to your A7 III

Very nice composition and locations but the photos are massively over-processed.

Yeah both my cameras (K-S1 and K-3) are capped in auto iso modes at 3,200. I'll only go beyond that if it's really really necessary for the shot.

Does the K-P perform well in RAW format, as I heard the new accelerator chip was for use on JPEGs only? Not sure on this one.

At all times though its important to work out what can be saved in post (noise on a blurred background doesn't matter if you apply noise reduction) and what can't without losing detail you do need. Noise in group shots is especially difficult for example, as each face is smaller than a single up close portrait. Flicking to B&W often sees noise appear as grain, which isn't too bad at times.
DPR criticised the K-1 mark II for including the accelerator chip's noise reduction in the RAW so there was no way to avoid it. I imagine that the KP does the same.
