My M 50/1.7 remains one of my favourite lenses and a great compact option for travelling. The M 120/2.8, which is about the same size and weight as the 135/3.5, is still a great tele option for travel too.
I just had to look up a Pentax 120mm f2.8, I had never heard of that one before and you are correct about the size and weight comparison
The M 135mm f/3.5 used to be my default telephoto lens for travel but I switched to the 120mm f/2.8 as it's a bit faster, sharper wide open and provides about the same field of view while being the same size and weight. If you can find and stretch to the higher price of a 120/2.8 then there's no reason to own the 135/3.5.

It also exists as a Super-Multi-Coated Takumar, which I also have, and I think the Tak is even sharper wide open.

An excellent price for what is the best Pentax lens I've ever used. I wouldn't part with mine.

Recently a few companies have introduced fast 135mm lenses of f/2 or f/1.8, so vintage is no longer the only way to go for that speed at such a long focal length, so I suppose that's driving prices down.

I'd love to say it's still worth a lot but it honestly depends on how the next year pans out with Ricoh Pentax.

If they manage to revive the DSLR line then these lens continue to hold intrigue and value. If not, then demand will fizzle and they'll end up as odd collectibles.
I don't think this is true at all. The prices of vintage lenses don't depend on the success or otherwise of Pentax - vintage lenses are more usable on mirrorless than they ever have been on DSLRs so the pool of potential users and buyers remains the same no matter what Ricoh Pentax does.

How about taking it back to the shop to try it on another body there? Even if it's out of warranty they might help you out. Or maybe you can find another Pentaxian close by who's willing to provide another camera to try it on?

I'm not really familiar with the subject but surely the photos should be possible with either flashes or by puting the camera on a tripod and doing a long exposure. Or am I missing something?

Last I remember these things are really hard to come by, I'm surprised no-one's snapped them up.
