There are various posts around that explain how to convert the 16-50 to screw drive only if that helps.

Here's one>link.

I'm sure I've seen something similar for the 50-135, but....

I'd take Pentax to task over the failed SDM repair. It probably had a 6 month warranty, but you might be lucky and find it's 12 months, but in any event shouldn't fail within a few months (assuming you meant Summer 2014?).

Have you cleaned the contacts on the lens and body mounts?

Excuse my ignorance, but is this adapter with or without the electrical contacts please?

Check the spring-loaded pins in the grip that connects it to the body.

They've been known to stick in the 'depressed' position, (sorry, can't think of a better way to describe it), and not make contact properly with the corresponding contacts in the body. Also, clean both the pins and the contacts.

I have a K-30 and have almost exclusively been taking photos of my (now) 17 month old for the last ... er ... 17 months.

When she was 6 months old I got a DA 50 1.8 and was amazed at the sharpness and quality of the photos I got of her. Then, suddenly, at maybe 10 months, the quality of photos seriously reduced - so many were suddenly out of focus. For a while I really did blame the lens and was trying all sorts to fix it - then realised it was something much more simple than that. She could move.

So being a beginner it's taken me a while to adjust but after a lot of Googling and searching / reading these forums I'm happy once again.

Moving the focus button away from the shutter release onto the AE-L button was the first big gain. It seemed totally counter intuitive but the thread I got the tip from said something like that but that you should stick with it. And it was right. Holding AE-L down in AF-C mode gives me much more opportunity to keep her in focus - even with that lens.

Like earlier posts in the thread have said, it doesn't work for every photo - especially when the subject concerned is obsessed with the pretty camera and makes a bee line for it as soon as she hears it clicking (hence a lot of out of focus close ups of her nose) - but it's much more likely to succeed than anything else I've tried.

I try to give myself a head start with focus - if we're at home and she's run out of the room, I know she's going to be running back in again soon, so focus on something at the point where she'll come back in - the door frame, something just ahead of the door, so I know I'll get something as soon as she'll come back in.
You might want to explore Catch In Focus. Essentially, the camera is pre-focussed on a spot and when something - like a fast moving daughter - enters the target zone the camera fires.

Plenty of posts in this Forum on it.

Search for Catch in Focus here in the Forum using the 'all terms' option and you'll find some interesting reading.

I assume the K30 can do it; certainly my older K20D could.

The K-S1 is an upcoming deal as well.
Given the fact that Amazon have it for sale for £200 more than SRS they have plenty of room for manoeuvre.

Presumably the 18-135 has let you down?

Thanks all for the suggestions and comments. Not sure I want to go to the expense of a converted DSLR, but I'll ponder. I have a spare and little used K20D that would do the trick I suppose.

That problem should be resolved now.

We are aware of this. It's actually something we want to improve in the next phases of development in which we make the site friendly for all screen sizes including smartphones and tablets. We will be looking to making the 'site' space larger on larger screens while condensing it to fit and flow better on smaller screens.

If you don't mind me asking. Those of you with 24" monitors, what screen resolution are you using? Our statistics show that the majority of our visits are from users with 1280px or less wide screens in which the new design fits snuggly within with very minimal margin to the left and right.
I'm running at 1920x1080

I'm intrigued, then, as to how the 'false-colour' IR photos I've seen are produced in-camera as I understood them to be?
Kodak Ektachrome IR Film would do it, but I'm not sure it's still available. It was E-4 process, which is way out of date now.
Thanks John, but what I've seen (and what I'm interested in) is from DSLR's
