OR, being a 'trombone' zoom, try pushing/pulling the zoom and see if it reveals a macro range.

The only filter in use is a UV filter mainly for front element protection

Seems it had been used very successfully to get rid of the yellow colouration found in some Tak lenses; the lamp was left shining through the lens for 24 hours.
It was stated that this was due to the amount of UV given out by the lamp and therefore it should be equally good killing lens fungus.
I pass this on out of interest. I don't have any Taks or fungus!
