I understand that some stores like the Oxford Street on are flagship stores where a lot of the real clearance stuff will go. Interestingly, they have other new ones in the main sale cabinets for sale in excess of £300!
Whilst JL does have flagship stores, they don't concentrate clearance items into them at Clearance time.

Special purchases are distributed to all stores, and each store will mark down as appropriate items that for them are normal stock. A flagship store is more likely to have a wider range of brands, so they're the places to look at Clearance time for brands like Pentax which us not stocked in all JL stores.

JL online is effectively a separate business and does its own thing.

My wife used to work for JL.

When Photography Blog reviewed the K30 back in 2012 they stated that the shutter was designed for 100k releases.

Now, if that's the case, and in fairness I have no idea of their source, it would seem more than reasonable that the rest of the components were designed to support that target, regardless of how old the body is.

Yes, components fail, but there's a trend, pattern, call it what you will, that suggests that certain of the parts in the K30 (and other mid-range Pentax bodies), are not up to par, as you would reasonably expect 'normal' wear and tear failures to only start as you approach that 100k shutter actuation point?

A quick shout out for Derek!

Picked up the K10D and grip today. Good to meet you Derek.

The camera and grip are in pristine condition and I look forward to finding out more about the legendary (?) K10D sensor qualities.

He has/will have other kit for sale, which unfortunately I already own, otherwise I wouldn't have hesitated to add his kit to my ever growing collection!

If this were me I'd be suing Pentax without hesitation. Speak to Consumer Advice.

This is clearly an inherent problem and as such is nothing to do with you or how you use the camera. There is plenty of evidence here and on other Forums that it is affecting a lot of users. As such, Pentax should be liable. Don't be fobbed off. You should expect 6 years life from your camera.

CA will be able to guide you through making a claim against Pentax via the Small Claims process for the cost of the repair.

I've found a post over on DPR that includes a statement that the K5 bodies write to memory cards at c20mb/s. No source, so no idea how accurate the figure is.

Update: still no source, but multiple references to slow write speed attributed to a slow camera bus.

I'm not going to disagree with the recommendation for the K3 yet, but feel it would help if you could say what your preferred photo subjects are, and if there are any areas you'd like to concentrate on.

For example, both the K1, K-S2 and new K70 have articulating rear lcd screens which could prove useful for macro work in the field - bugs, fungi, etc. The K1 and K3II have pixel shift, which could be useful for architecture and still life, etc.
