No! There are 6 ads, although one is an updated duplicate. As Jim says, some interesting items including some Ltds.

Looking at this another way, don't you already have the answer in the exif data from the shots from previous trips? (Assuming they were digital images)

Just check out what the focal lengths were for the shots you took, and presuming you were happy you didn't miss anything, you'll have the answer in the range of focal lengths used?

Great news!

Now you know a lot more about your camera than when you set out on your trip

There's always room for an up side in every problem.

MattMatic: have checked the pins after having left the battery out for about an hour. The pins work as you said: When in AF.S and AF.C, the focus driver retracts. In MF, it is flush with the body.
Do you mean the focus drive (shaft) protrudes when in AF.S and AF.C? If so, that's correct. If it's flush with the mount, it's wrong!

JohnX: Have obtained the firm update software. The file is FWD183B. Have copied it to the root of the DCIM folder on the card and confirmed that it is at DCIM/FWD183B.
The readme file that came with the update told me to turn on the power whilst pressing the Menu button. When I do this, only the version number, which is 1, appears. It does not say 'loading'. just displays the version number and after a second or two goes to the usual menu items. No updating request is displayed?
What should I do to achieve the task, please?
As I am out of the UK, cannot look up my manuals.
You've put it in the wrong place! It should NOT be in the DCIM folder.

Use a re-formatted card, then install to the root. You should not have any other folders.

Switch off the camera; insert the card into the card slot; turn on the camera; follow the instructions on the LCD.

That said, Andy seems to be on to a potential hardware issue, and on the face of it updating the firmware won't help. Check that out before upgrading firmware.

Although a firmware upgrade is straight forward you'll see some threads on here (and elsewhere) where people have 'bricked' their cameras because the firmware upgrade wasn't completed for various reasons At least at the moment you have a camera that limp's along. Maybe safest to use it as best you can and send it in for repair on your return to the UK (unless you have time to get it fixed locally?).

If the firmware upgrade goes wrong it means a new, and expensive, main board for the camera PLUS the cost of any hardware fix. The repairer should do the firmware upgrade FOC whilst the camera is in for repair.

Look for 'Reset' in the 'Set-up' menu.

If you've set anything in the Custom Setting menu there's a separate 'Reset' feature there too.

Have you tried updating the camera's firmware?

My recent two pics of a juvenile adder on the Gallery are reasonable but not dead sharp.
Any idea about the aperture setting for the shot of the adder looking into the camera?

I see very shallow depth of field - focus on the adders head, and/or a front focussing.

The area in front of the snake is in focus - body and area behind oof.

I had read somewhere (could be wrong) that you have to take the crop factor into account, so 1/450. I rounded to 1/500 for convenience.

To be honest, I've seen it written both ways, difficult to know what the truth is!
Careful Robbie - we could be straying into the 'focal length Vs field of view' battle ground

I'd like to know the answer though!

Taking hand-held shots without shake with such a long lens will require a shutter speed in the region of 1/500 I think (correct me if I'm wrong though guys).
I think the 'rule of thumb' is the reciprocal of the focal length, ie for a 300mm lens it would be 1/300 sec.
