I can see the shot here in this thread, and on Flickr.

The seller is/was Cardiff Camera Centre, a long established Pentax Pro dealer.

I would very much doubt they would risk their reputation selling grey imports.

Could be the K5 pre-flash is the problem, which it uses for P-TTL. This will trigger the 500 ahead of the main K5 flash.

Don't have a K5, but I believe you can switch it off.

There will be a point where I can't resist a K-01, basically for use as a studio camera for copying and small product shots. On a tripod, using the back screen is a very effective way to set these up.

It might also be useful for flower studies - composing on the screen is an effective way of avoiding having to constantly bend my back to look through the viewfinder.
To get this thread focussed back on the K-01, that was my first thought when I saw it - ideal on a tripod composing off the LCD.

Personally wouldn't buy one for anything else, as I really think cameras should have view-finders!

I get fed-up trying to avoid photographers holding their cameras out in front of them at arms length.

Picking up on Matt's suggestion re '£30 manual', these 'guns appear to have a good following;

I don't have one myself, so can't speak for their quality, etc, but they're readily available from a raft of sources on a well known auction site.

Maybe choose one and Google for reviews, etc?

Model has a strap mark on the shoulder, make-up on her cheek, plus capillaries are showing through her skin.

You are also really zooming in on a relatively small image, so any imperfections will get magnified accordingly.

Assuming this will be printed, to what size?

Q1 - yes
Q2 - depends.

I'm also looking to upgrade (from a K20D) to the new body, but accept that I won't be an early adopter (a) on price and (b) until any issues are known/resolved.

As ever it's a difficult call with technology. Buy now and you get a great camera at a great price and the utility from owning it, but the risk is tomorrows camera will be even more fantastic and you'll be unhappy!

I take the simple view that if I really, really, wanted the K5 I'd have bought it some while ago, and since I haven't then I don't (yet) need it.

As ever, it's you who make the photograph. Technology just helps!

Maybe it's me, but all I'm seeing are marks and blemishes on the model's skin.

Are you talking about in the shadow area's? If so, could simply be too great a range for the sensor to handle.

ISO seems 'high' and shutter speeds too low.

Try lighting changes to eliminate shadows?

Interesting shot by the way
