It might be the auto focus has been reprogrammed to an alternative button and the seller is not aware of that.

Because in order to stay in business they want you to buy new lenses rather than old ones (on which they receive no cut).
I appreciate that's tongue in cheek but as Pentax use the fact that their older lenses are compatible with the new cameras is a selling point a little guidance on the matter in the camera manual wouldn't have gone amiss!

It must have been one of the most asked 'how to' questions about Pentax DSLRs so really should have had a mention.

I thought today I'd see how my old M Lenses would work with my new K-5 having sometimes found quite an exposure discrepancy when stopping these lenses down on my older Pentax/Samsung DSLR bodies (K200D, GX-20, K-m).

I set the camera to M (having found that Av did nothing) and pressed the green button and pleasingly found it stopped the lens down briefly to take an exposure reading and right across the range of f numbers exposure was consistent and good and according to the histograms produced perhaps even better than the 18-55 that came with the camera. That was with both an M 50mm f1.4 and an M 200mm f4.

I always thought it odd that using older M and K lenses never worked as expected previously. If anyone has old M lenses and wondering whether to go for the K-5 or an older model to get the best out of them, then the K-5 would seem to be the Pentax of choice (I've not tried a K-7.)

Having got the lenses working fine I thought I'd check in the camera manual for the official method of using them. I couldn't even find a mention of this and no reference to the green button providing this function unless I've missed it somehow. Why would Pentax omit this information?

Camera still seems fine. Weather outside uninspiring so carried out another sensor check. Really did think I had an issue with it for a moment until I moved the image around the monitor screen and the marks stayed put! Phew! Just a couple of little splashes on the monitor screen looking just like sensor splashes.

Pleased to say mine arrived this morning too (a day later than expected.)
After charging the battery, which seemed to take an age, a quick check for staining hasn't revealed anything immediately obviously wrong so hope it is fine. It's a 39 series camera with a rubber stamped 'O' on the camera's bar code sticker on the box.
Initial impressions look good with some simple features other cameras would have found useful like the lock on the mode wheel. How often they have changed their settings all by themselves on other cameras!
Despite being familiar with a GX-20 there is still a lot to look into before feeling fully at home with this one.
I'll try to take something more interesting than a blank piece of paper tomorrow!

Well gone 6pm and mine hasn't come. Doesn't look like it will now.

Further to my earlier post I too have now ordered a K-5 from SRS and am expecting it to come tomorrow. SRS quickly dealt with their promise to cover delivery charges for forum members after I couldn't find the necessary box to put my username in - thank you.
Guess they must be pretty busy with K-5 sales given their competitive pricing since Christmas and sorting out residual sensor issues.
I'm sure Pentax will want to get this one right to help rebuild their brand.
Nearly midnight, hopefully not too long to wait now!

Thanks for the welcome. I've been reading the forum for at least a year now and would like to thank all those who give suggestions as to good reliable software to accomplish various tasks and comments on lens issues and so on.
I think you're right about getting it sooner rather than later. It has already proved itself to be a great performer and with a good guarantee should any issues persist with the sensor problem or anything else help won't be far away.
I'll let you know when I have 'taken the plunge!'

This is my first time post here on the Pentax Forum so hello to you all, however I'm a very long time Pentax user (ESII, ME, MX, K2) and I still have them all!
Was seriously considering a K-5 but would like to see the sensor issue resolved first.
It seems that the Sony sensor is also causing problems to the Nikon D7000 too (see here) so it may not be easy for any of the non Sony manufacturers to fix the issue despite reassurances. Could it be one way of cornering the market, give all the opposition's cameras a bad name?
Anyhow do hope it does get resolved before the Pentax cashback offer ends but cannot see it beating the VAT increase.
