"Please do not take this as an insult it's just the title"

No worries, I think it's a pretty fair description of where I am at the moment.

Ok so it seems like the book isn't the best, so my next question is can anyone recommend a good beginners book on digital photography.?

It's a follow on from a question yesterday but I thought I should start a new thread to make it easier to find.

I'm thinking about getting polarising filter for my k200d. In the book I've got (Magic lantern guide) it says that linear polarisers "cause problems with exposure and may prevent auto focusing...and shouldn't be used with the k200d". Advice yesterday seemed to say that the more expensive circular polarisers weren't really essential. Has anyone had any experience using the linear filters with a k200d

Apologies if it's a stupid question, this is all new to me.

I think that the advice about dust must have come from someone who'd had a bad experience, doesn't make sense to me either. The lunar photography is by no means a priority, maybe something for the future.

I did have a look at the 55-300 with interest. I'd like something that offers more scope than I currently have while I'm learning.

Did think about manuals but I'd heard that there was a dust issue with going that route (?) Not sure I follow the logic now I've typed it though.

The tripod I've got is pretty bomb proof, my bridge looked slightly ridiculous on it....

Have a couple of fairisle's in my cupboard that will do....

Thanks for the post, seems better than I thought in terms of what my grand national scoop can get me. Are the remote and filters useful for a beginner or would I be better served spending it all on the lens?

I've recently bought by first SLR (K200d + kit lens) and I'm very pleased with the results so far.

Quite unexpectedly I've now got £300 to spend on extras and I'm looking for advice for expanding my kit. I've got nothing except tripods from my bridge camera days.

I'm mainly interested in outdoor photography, both big scale landscapes and small scale (close ups of plant life etc) I'm keen to keep as flexible as I can though and I'm also interested in architectural photography. I've also been seduced by lunar shots I've seen so I'm leaning towards a telephoto. But I wanted to get some ideas before I bought anything.

I'm thinking I'd be able to get a new lens and maybe some extras (filters: circular polarizer for nice skies? Remote: So I can use long exposures) I might be being wildly optimistic so if that's the case let me down gently.

So to the question. If you had no kit and £300 to spend what would you get?
