You and I know that, but the target buyer of these cameras will go on "more pixels = better". I've recently seen 2 friends use this exact argument to buy 400Ds. I can't see the man in Jessops getting into discussions about noise and pixel densities...

The D40X is a direct reaction to the EOS400D which has probably been outselling the Nikon - purely because the target audience for these things is the person who goes into Jessops and buys the one with the most pixels per pound.

This is bad news for the K100D, AP award winner or not. The man in the street doesn't know 6MP is fine for his needs - big brands and lots of pixels will sell it to most first time buyers.

Strange that the Tokina doesn't have SSM for Canikon versions. I would have thought it would be cheaper for all Tokina/Pentax versions to have the same spec, just a different mount. Even the coatings are probably the same (given they're both Hoya).

I had a 28-300 for 35mm and it wasn't good. These may be better, I don't know. The Nikon is usefully faster and I'm sure significantly better quality, which is reflected in its £500 price.

Very true - Nikon's 18-70 has supply problems.

I have to agree on the system support point. Although Pentax have a lot of the bases covered, there's not currently a huge amount of choice and it's difficult to find a definitive list of what FA/FA* lenses are still available. Every Pentax website gives you different results.

While Pentax do have a 18-55, 16-45, Nikon have an 18-55, an excellent 18-70, a cheap 18-135 and a highly regarded 18-200. True, there's a fast 16-50 on the way, but there's no convenient and high quality travel lens like the Nikon 18-200. I'm a K10D owner, by the way, not a Nikon owner.

Pentax also need to do more work getting dealers to stock lenses other than the 18-55 and 50-200. This is exactly why 2 friends just bought D80s, even though they said the K10D was better on paper.

I have handheld a 43mm Limited for 1sec before now and got a picture that's only slightly blurred when you study it closely at 100%.

Spoke to a dealer yesterday who expects them to be released at PMA with pricing details made available to dealers in advance but he knew yet nothing about prices.

Can anyone tell me if there are differences between the diaphragms on the various f/1.4 Tak 50s? I've seen an SMC Tak 50/1.4 with 6 blades, but I'm sure I saw a Super Tak or Super Multi Coated Tak (again 50/1.4) with 8 blades. Did I imagine it?

I'm on the look out for a Super Multi Coated or SMC 1.4 to go on a K10 - does anyone have any recommendations?
