I downloaded a trial of elements 8 last night and messed around with a few images. I was impressed. I also found the bicubic enlarger easy enough to get my head round.
I'm using a HP 4050 scanner for the slides and negs, but it takes an age to do. Sixteen slides at 600dpi/ppi takes about an hour and a half.

I realise that there's a version of silkypics that comes with the camera, which i'm happy to use but i also want an interpolation programme. The interpolation being for the huge box of slides and negatives that i have. It also appeals in that i may wish to blow up to poster size anything in the future. The front runner interpolationally seems to be Genuine Fractuals which is a Photoshop plug in, which would mean having to buy Elements 8. So are is there any good stand alone interpolation software out there which compares to Genuine Fractuals. I'm quite happy to go down the Elements 8/Fractuals route if need be but given that i have RAW conversion software with the camera a stand alone interpolation programme make more sense.
Many thanks, Calum

The other popular recommendations i found were: dscolourlabs, onevisionimaging, peakimaging and snapfish.

I've just bought it and found out that it also comes with a receipt.
I had been looking on eBay but only under the DSLR section, so it obviously pays to cover all options when searching.
So thanks galore Donald your help has been greatly appreciated.
All the best, Calum

So back to the drawingboard and i've been online also trying to get a K200D but this also seems to be out of stock everywhere.
So does anyone know where i can get my hands on a new K200D or have a good used one that i can take of their hands?
Many thanks, Calum

Ah Polchraine you are right there in that there is nowhere that does the "marag dubh" as well. I can't say i've had Buckie haggis, but i work with a lot of chaps from there offshore so i'll make a point of getting one.

My first camera over twentyfive years ago was a Pentax then a Minolta, a Nikon and finally a Canon. I then entered the digital age with Fujifilm somethingorother point and shoot ten years ago and for the past five years i've had a Lumix LX1, which i have enjoyed using but have by the same measure found frustrating to use. So i decided to bite the bullet and get another SLR.
Coming from 35mm i find the whole digital process to be far too complicated in comparison and i'm sure that there are a lot like me out there who know how to take a photograph and just want the best sensor and metering system without the teasmaid thrown in.
Anyway i did a lot of reasearch and decided on the Km because it consistently got better reviews over its main rival and seems to be considered user friendly (no teasmaids). I also liked my old Pentax and disliked the idea that some people who work for the largest UK camera chain who doesn't stock Pentax told me that they are not as technologically advanced and not worth stocking!
That statement was what did it for me and i bought my Pentax the very next day.
Anyway i look forward to visiting this forum in the future and possibly bending a few ears.
Many thanks to you all.
