I shoot RAW + JPEG (lowest size and quality) so that I can view the images on the camera. Back home I can then quickly browse through all the images on the laptop and decide which ones are worth processing properly from the RAW file.
Matt,

Great idea - i'd been doing the same only using the highest quality JPEG, don't know why your idea to use the lowest settings never occurred to me before!

Aha,

just found this on another forum,

http://photo.net/medium-format-photography-forum/000XKb

Seems John is right and the 'N' series are for the 645, but a newer version.

Hi impotentspider,

I've got a Mamiya 645J, so might be able to help a little.

I've only got what I think is the standard lens, the 80mm. On the front of this it says Mamiya Sekor 'C', so not sure if one with 'N' is right for 645's or not.

What Graham says above is probably correct, though my camera is fully manual (no metering so have to use a hand-held meter) so on mine the 'A'setting just acts as depth of field preview.

Unfortunately I haven't used my Mamiya for years, maybe I should blow the dust off it and give it another try....... If I did still use it I might be tempted to make you an offer.

Congratulations to Darkmonk for first place, a very deserved winner. Well done also to Tony-O, MikeW and Prieni for the placements.

Thanks Lilly for the great judging and my wonderful second place, I couldn't be happier, especially as I only got my act together to put in an entry so late in the day.

There are some good shots in there and the very late entry with the jewellery making was a theme I wanted to follow but didn't and I doubt that I'd have managed such a good shot. It's composition and exposure looks great to me.

Cheers Mike, lets hope the judge agrees with you!

Thanks Mike,

actually the 13 hrs isn't full-on, I teach at a college (3 Lectures on a Monday; morning afternoon and evening class), so at least get some 'down time' between lectures. I'm usually talking jibberish by 8:45 in the evening though!

Here's a thread for anyone to discuss the topic. Once the first entry is up,I won't look at it again until after the closing time.

Apologies in advance just in case results are a little slow in coming, I have a nightmare 13 hour stint at work each Monday and don't like to have a late night Sunday! I will post the results as soon as I can get on a computer next Monday.

Cheers everyone.

My votes:

1st jackietec - love the 'plasma' effect.

2nd Mike-P: like the 3d bas-relief type thing, almost tangible.

Well, here's my effort.

Desaturated the colour and tried to get the Orton effect. Didn't work as well as I'd hoped but haven't got the time to try any harder.
