Or are they just 'consolidating' there position?
If they were competative on price and carried a better range they may not be in this position

quick shake , using the built in software. Phew! all the dust has gone.
now on the K110d it's a case of using one of those lens pen things to brush the dust off.
Cleaning's a lot easier with the up to date models

why are they depressing reveiws? They weren't too bad, althought, i was shocked to see that Which? prefered the Samsung (GX10?) version to the K20D!!!

...Because!
I like the feel, the quality, the fact they don't flex in the hand (I tried a canon thing once that felt like it came in a box of cornflakes),backward lens compatibility, I could go on.
Of course the fact they take good pictures also helps!

Yeah, i did like the picture that came up with that new/old lens - beautiful happy accident so i'll certainly stick with it.

When not pressed for time, I try to shoot more deliberately (which for me means much more slowly), and I like to think that the lack of quantity shooting this way is made up for, at least a little bit, but higher quality images.
With film, the fact I only have 24 or 36 chances to get that one perfect frame means I think more and that, believe me, is hard!!!

The trouble is that being competitive means lower prices and it's difficult to make a profit when prices are low and overheads (staff and premises included) are high. The High Street model is much more difficult than say an Internet-based supplier, where costs are much lower.
You also need to buy in goods and pay for them, usually before they are sold and generate income, so a wide range means high stocking costs.
So I don't think Jessops are in the best of positions. Lowering prices is not the answer to their survival, because it will increse their rate of losing money. They were doing well once, and probably over-stretched by expanding too fast and at the wrong time.
