My ME super doesn't have a 2 sec. delay only a self timer.

Mongoose - the lens is probably not worth the cost of repair

Am I right in thinking that if I remove the bar/lever that the camera uses to close the aperture blades then the aperture will be as selected by the f stop ring ie for f2.8 wide open and for f16 closed down ( is this called stop down metering?)

If this is the case will I not be able to use the lens without overexposing? all be it with out TTL metering -

I picked up a Vivitar series 1 28 - 90 mm PK mount lens in a charity shop for £3.00 but it's faulty, when I open the aperture up (using the lever at the mount end of the lens) and then release it instead of snapping instantly back to the f11 or whatever it is set to, it slowly returns to f11 (hope that makes sense). Everything else appears to be fine and in good condition.

I've read good reports on these Vivitar series 1 lenses but I'm assuming that it's not worth getting it repaired.

As you can probably tell I'm a novice but I was thinking that if I cut the lever off could I use it as a preset or manual lens? I'm assuming that I wouldn't be able to meter through it on my ME super though.

Perhaps you could suggest which Pentax DSLR would best fit my needs in that I don't need a zoom lens but would like to use my old lenses, also it doesn't need to have all the latest mod cons an older 2nd hand / discontinued model would be fine, I will be using it for B&W

Sorry if this topic has been covered before. I did a search through old posts and think I understand the problems.

I have some old SMC K mount and M42 mount lenses 50mm, 28mm and 24mm that I would like to use on a digital camera, from what I've read I understand that the problems are :-

1. mounting these lenses on a DSLR - the K's will be ok but the M42's will require an adapter.
2. the focal length will change on a DSLR ie a 50mm will become an 80mm etc.
3. manual focussing only which is fine but will be more difficult unless I fit a focussing screen.

Autofocus I'm not bothered about, TTL metering would be good but if not I can use a light meter

Have I got this right?

At the moment I have a two film cameras a Spotmatic and ME super also a Nikon D80 (which feels enormous)

What I would really like is a DSLR body the size of the ME super that I can use my old lenses on without changing the focal length - wishful thinking I guess or is it?

I'm getting back into film again after a loooong time and resurrecting my ME Super. I have also just bought a Spotmatic with 50mm lens for nostalgic reasons (it being a camera that I would have dearly loved to have owned in my youth but couldn't afford). So will probably be asking a few questions on this excellent forum
