I have been debating that one in my head. The even resolution characteristics of the 70mm seem to make it slightly preferable for landscape use, and the quick shift is a nice feature, so I'm sticking with the 70mm for the time being...

But LBA hasn't finished, even though I have a great set up. I want to buy something, it's just that I don't know what...

i have the 200mm, but not the 70-200mm, because of the weight.

my advice is that if you are undecided, think about what kind of work you'll want it for.

if you can take your time and step back from subjects for portraits, or change lenses to something shorter, then the weight savings of the prime are significant—close to half a kilo.

The 15mm and the 31mm make for an awesome twosome. Add a 70mm or a 77mm to those, and you have an excellent travel trio.

Still on the lookout for one of these.

i recently picked up the 31mm to replace the 35mm, and have used both a fair bit.

they are very different lenses. i'd choose the 35mm for microcontrast and macro, and the 31mm for bokeh. even though both are very sharp, i take the 31mm to have a smoother microcontrast than the 35mm.

it's a matter of preference. if you're not after the bokeh, then go for it. if bokeh is something that matters to you, you may well miss the 31mm.

primes all the way for me. i can't deal with the size of f/2.8 zooms!

i'd still want to use it for landscapes, so i'd want to stop down for that. but you're right that it wouldn't affect the bokeh aspect.

turns out that i've been a bit of a moron. the stf doesn't have an aperture ring, so a mount swap would be very very tricky, since it would involve hacking electronics. i give up on the idea...

i've messed around with the idea, and putting an it anywhere but where the aperture of the lens is results in vignetting that's way too severe.

i think it's possible to do a mount swap on the stf. i know that it's been moved to canon, which is an easier task, given canon's longer registration distance. but i reckon 1mm is fine for a mount swap...

i'm having difficulty in finding a technician to do it for me, so i might have to have a go myself. i've done some conversions before, but i just get butterflies when it comes to doing it with an expensive lens...

while i hold the jupiter 135/3.5, and the jupiter 135/4 in high esteem, they are not a patch on the stf...
