I agree completely with your observations and those of Chrism8, they really are appreciated. I've noticed the green and purple edging in some of my shots with the Tamron 70-300. I'm not sure but it seems to happen more when the lens is at 300mm. I'm going to use it at around 250-280 and see the results. Also, I've been getting above my station by looking at the better lenses but I'm kidding myself as they are too much for me to pay.
There is one which I might be able to save for in a couple of months, the Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 SP AF Di LD (IF) macro lens. I'm going to research it over the next week or so. Have you or anyone got personal experience of the lens, please? Muchly thankings.

Hi Gedski,
The first and third image look good, marginally sharper than the second image, I appreciate these are also smallish jpegs you've had to upload so I'm respectful of the image size.
Re the second image, the chain and post looks sharper than the birds, so wonder if you've focused on that, the exposure looks a little over exposed, the birds white plumage is burnt out.
You do seem to be getting there thou, great stuff 😀

I think that I got the text bit a little out of place, sorry. Not to worry. You should all be astounded by my shots. Saying that they are superb, indicated by the line, 'I've never seen anything like it in my life'. You can't say fairer than that!

Afternoon Gedski,
What were your settings on the Pigeon, it looks to be a fairly small DOF hence the feathers under the eye look quite sharp, but the eye and upper head feathers look as though the sharpness is fading, or your focus point was a fraction off.
Have you tried " back button " focussing, this is where you keep a finger or normally your thumb on the AF button on the back of the camera which ensures it continuously focusses while doing so and just use the trigger for firing the shutter, once you've got used to it, it does work well.
You can upload more to the forum pages and whilst we are trying to get your BIF shots up to speed, suggest you do so, its only the gallery that without putting your hand in your pocket is only one per day.
I've not tried the back button focusing as I've been concentrating on getting some half decent shots but I will over this weekend.

Hi Gedski,
Before spending a wedge on a Pentax 70 - 200 F2.8, have a look at a Sigma lens of the same spec you mentioned in a previous thread you couldn't afford the same kit I was using yet the Pentax is well over £1k more expensive than the Sigma lens proven to get decent BIF images on the earlier thread.
It might hunt a little, but that's the nature with what your shooting and good technique can elimate a lot of the hunting.

Exif is ISO 1250, f5.6, 1/1600 at 240mm.
The only constant is the 2400mm as I'm trying to get rid of the purple fringing which appears at 300mm. It needs more research. I've been messing around with different settings in more or less the same weather conditions. I think that my best effort is the first one with the ISO on 800.
I've also been trying the same settings as I have on my 760D but they don't seem to work out on my K-50. I'm sure that it is me and not the cameras, although I have wondered whether the differences in lens quality might have something to do with that. The K-50 lens is the Tamron 70-300mm and the 760D lens is a canon 70-200mm f.4 'L' lens. As always all opinions are welcome and any assistance valued. Muchly thankings.
