There's some gorgeous birds in there .. the Tawny Owl is a superb shot and the clear winner for me. The Merlin a comfortable #2 - but just a touch on the soft side.

Well almost.

Continuing on from this thread here : https://www.pentaxuser.com/forum/topic/world-s-smallest-raptor---pied-falconets-...

Please read the introduction and information in the link above for details of these amazing, wonderful, tiny birds.

Having enjoyed a number of dragonflies (and a small bird the day before I heard) this time one of the parents caught a butterfly and then proceeded to sit on the bough and call the fledgling in to share in the errr umm 'feast' ?

Lovely set, they all work very well together, especially with the info, to make a very interesting mini-article. I didn't realise there were any raptors that small!
Thank you AG !

One of the happy pursuits I follow is photographing birds and I hope to improve at this as time goes by. At what point I become a "birder" I do not know.

However, it looks like variable setting would be better as by removing 1.6fps we'll upset those who use it. I don't know what they use it for, but no doubt somebody does.
Yes variable would be even better of course.

As has been said sometimes you don't need 7 fps and 3-4 would be perfect
I wonder what these circumstances are? For action shots surely faster is better? What sort of action shots mean slower is better?

It would seem odd for a manufacturer to make a selling point of having a slower frame rate than the opposition and I'm not aware of one that does.
You've misunderstood. Two frame rates exactly as we have now except instead of 7 fps and 1.6 fps we have 7 fps and 3-4 fps. I know you are not a birder so you have probably not come across a need for this - however as mentioned above 1.6 fps is virtually useless in any scenario I can imagine !

why the drop mentioned for the LO mode
I'm going to guess that the Lo rate is the fastest possible rate that can be continuous until the card is full.

The fast rate can of course be reduced by using a slower shutter speed. You can't do 7fps with a shutter speed of 1/2 second for example.
Both are ridiculous IMHO.

The whole point of 7 fps is to catch fast action so a slow shutter speed would be counter-productive.

What is the point of being able to fill the card at 1.6 fps ? As has been said sometimes you don't need 7 fps and 3-4 would be perfect. Just last weekend I found out how totally useless that 1.6 fps is and had to switch back to my default 7 fps and just delete the excess.
