That's a tremendous price - I've sent them an email. If I can get the VAT refund for taking it out of Europe then that's £320 ! Brilliant deal.

Mark. You might also want to consider the excellent Sigma 50-150 (no SDM issues and has HSM).

NickW has just put up this link - 400 is a great price : https://www.pentaxuser.com/forum/topic/sigma-50-150-and-1-4x-converter-26169

There was also an excellent comparison on the other forum from jsherman - virtually nothing in it between that and the 50-135.

SELL

Pentax AF 16-45mm
Pentax 28-70mm SMC 4.
Sigma 28-70 3.5 4.5 UC
Pentax DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL
Sigma 28-200mm 3.8 5.6
Pentax 70-200 SMC 4.
Tamron 70-300mm 4.
Pentax DA 50-200mm f/4-5.6 ED
Sigma 28-300mm 3.5 6.3 DL Hyperzoom
Sigma 400mm APO Manual
Sigma 400mm AF not APO
P/K Sigma 1000mm 13.5
Kenko Pz-AF 2X teleplus MC7
Jessop MC 2X PZ/AF

KEEP THE REST & BUY

I would definitely keep the Tamron 90 Di /2.8 - not only is it fantastic lense in it's own right but it is your only macro lense.

It also looks like you prefer zooms so :

Tamron 17-50/2.8 or Sigma 17-50/2.8
Pentax 50-135/2.8 or Sigma 50-150/2.8
Pentax DA*300

Of course if you now want to try quality primes then that's a whole new kettle of fish !

If you aren't confident about the 16-50 there are other options (Tamron 17-50 & new Sigma 17-50), if you feel the same about the 50-135 then there is always the faster focusing Sigma 50-150 (if you can still find one). Other than those two, other SDM 'powered' lenses seem to have negligible SDM failure rates.

The 150-500 is not really suitable for indoor sports and if at a sports event you are going to need a tripod (or at the very least a monopod). It is really a birding / aircraft lense though the zoom versatility gives it a wider utilisation.

For just a little more you could have the 60-250/4 which would give you the flexibility you would need to shoot combatants in most areas of the pitch / court / pool. And the increase in IQ and resolution is a substantial (allowing tighter crops). It's also about half the weight of the 150-500 and therefore easily handheld.

For your landscapes after your move to Canada then you are going to need a much wider lense and there are many options out there from utility lenses such as the new 18-135 to specialist lenses such as a the Tamron 17-50/2.8, Pentax *16-50, Pentax 12-24, Sigma 10-20, Pentax 17-70 etc. etc. All depends on your budget - do you have a total figure for both lenses ?

Thank Tyr & RParmar !

Dave & Tyr. Pentaxian is correct. Very low light levels meant the 6,400 max ISO (I was shooting in TaV mode) was quickly reached and was actually probably lower than it should have been. It was an impressive performance from the K5 and both Pentax lenses.

Actually this has reminded me of one other point of note - the DA*300 shots were slightly better exposed than the 60-250's (@250) which looked a tad under-exposed. It would seem that the DA*300 seems to gain maybe half a stop over the 60-250 under the identical conditions and using identical camera settings

Great shots !

Crane #4 in that last shot needs to pull his finger out ..... he's letting the formation down with his slacking
