Ah .. understood.

Well as far as SDM AF goes I think the DA*300 is one of the fastest, (probably because it's a prime ?), it's faster than the 60-250 and the 50-135 is known to be the slowest SDM lense (or does it shade the 55 ?) so the 300 is much faster than the 50-135, though if you need a zoom then that's irrelevant !

A simply wonderful series.

I was there in Sarajevo in 1994, for 4 months, before, during and after the Winter Olympics, made and then lost (as in never heard from again) many friends. I'll always wonder what became of them. Very poignant photos.

Sigmas - although they are different lenses (150-500 & 50-500) they are primarily used for the same function and people usually choose between them so I thought it reasonable (though not completely accurate of course) to group them here.
You only did it with those two, the DA*55 and the FA50 for example are also used for the same type of photo's but you grouped them not together but like you said it's all just for fun. =]

But i'm quite curious if you've the number separately to see how where they end up when alone.
No but I did keep the F and FA 50s together and also the M,A,K 50 variants grouped, one group being fully Af and others MF. I felt the 55 variants are sufficiently different lenses not to group them with the 50s, but all of those groupings are subjective, some will agree with them, others won't.

Sorry I didn't keep separate figures for them (I have kept all the results) - but the thread is still up so be my guest

Statisitcs are statistics and we all know they can be made, or interpreted, to represent almost any valid point of view. The survey was interesting in that it wasn't about what is your favourite lense, or which lense do you own that gives the best pictures IYO, but which do you use the most.

Obviously we don't have definitive numbers for actual shots taken so in that respect the results cold be skewed, and as I said the number of participants is very low for a survey of this type, but it's fun to see what people are using and fun to see how it all worked out in the end. Think some people need to lighten up a little, I'm certain Pentax are not ramping up production of the 100mm based on this

I'm now running the survey on PF so it will be interesting to see how that one works out and which lenses emerge as leaders from the two or more sites (if I put it up anywhere else) combined. Already there is a distinctly different patten emerging over there so I do suspect that there may be quite a few UK forum members here who picked themselves up a bargain and are enjoying the 100mm more than is usual elsewhere.

I have a Sigma 135-400. I considered a DA* 300 at one point, but since using the 135-400 for over a year now, I realise the DA* 300 won't give me any better pictures.
That's your opion, but I have to think that the DA*300mm is probably a step up in class IMHO.
Sorry Smeggy but have to agree with this - the DA*300 is a pretty amazing piece of glass.

I'm surprised that the DA 1:3.5-5.6 18-55mm AL II didn't rank higher, it isn't even on the list! Or did you include this in the WR version?
Correct ! Grouped together.

What are you planning to use it for ? For insects etc. the longer the macro lense the better ... longer working distance. When you get to 35/50 macros you have very limited working distances.

The reviewer did not mention the flash systems.

I shoot Pentax and Nikon. I find them so close in operations as not to be an issue.

Best IQ ??? Pentax.

Best current lens range, AF and flash ??? Nikon.

Only tools at the end of the day.

Best regards
Actually I think he did mention the flash system early in the comparison.

Very interesting that you find the IQ of Pentax better - is that comparing like for like (lense-wise) ?

I am toying with the idea of buying a used D700 and a couple of lenses to start with (I have had a good offer for my K7 and will be selling it), rather than a 2nd K5 and can't make my mind up which way to go.
