Thanks for all your comments so far. Indeed the K20D does look like a very good deal compared to the K-7. I was originally planning to go for the K20D + 16-50 deal on SRS but in the time it took me to assess my budget the offer has since gone.

I have looked at the prices for K20D bodies and they are quite close to new ones so if I decide to take up a new body it would be a new one. Given that my K100D's 18-55 probably isn't good enough for the K20D sensor I'm inclined to combine it with a 18-55 WR (the K7's kit lens); debating on whether I should pick the latter up from SRS also or just buy the body and buy the 18-55 WR from someone.

What I don't want to do is buy kit every year - I'd rather spend more on glass or travelling. The main attractions of the K20D/K7 for me are the weatherproofing and the pentaprism and SDM support... either I go for a K20D now or wait a year and look at the K7 again.

I use a K100D (without the Super) and have taken it on 2 holidays so far - it has never disappointed. I just went with the 18-55 and 50-200 (with a 28-70 in reserve).

Excellent quality photos in JPEG, and the RAW results are a joy to work with - just need to correct for the K100D's metering which isn't always spot on.

I really like your fourth picture, with the nice blurred background further emphasizing the butterfly. If I had taken something like this it would be on my desktop wallpaper for quite some time I think

Hi all,

I am considering picking up a more advanced body... The K20D is in my sights of course, and so is the new K7. The K7 is the newest model with video, a lighter body etc., but costs more than twice as much as the K20D for which there are really nice deals available now on SRS. I am considering the K-7 + 18-55 versus K20D + 16-50.

Would you think it is worth going for the latest K7 over the bargain K20D? Better to save on the body and spend more on yet more glass?

I have a third option, of course, and that is to just keep on shooting with my K100D and only pick up a new body when it dies...

Cheers!

Does that mean that if we don't like the current prices we will have to wait half a year then?

I have noticed that the K20D body+lens deals on SRS still follow the old lens prices, I am very tempted now LOL.

Hello all,

I have been a Pentax user for 2 years now - my K100D is my first SLR of any kind and I am really enjoying using it! I currently live in Cambridge and manage to take some interesting photos from time to time

You can see some of the photos I have taken on http://www.flickr.com/photos/fiish

Cheers!

I haven't bought anything from SRS before, after seeing the glowing recommendations all over this forum, and having watched their rather good prices for nearly a year they'll probably be my first stop when I've saved up for new glass. I have pointed a few friends their way though, more because of their pricing than anything else (they're happy, and they use Nikons....)

It is unfortunate that I shall now have to save up longer than planned, as the pancake lenses have gone up in prices by so much. I suppose I shall have more satisfaction from using these lenses when I finally can afford to buy them

I think the magnitude of the price increases is quite a hard blow, though. The prices have been stagnant for a few years now and I guess Pentax is just lumping it all up in one go - it is probably necessary for their business and could be done more gradually.
