ok ill check the manual , ive also got my eye on Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) - F2.8 all the way through , anyone had any experience of this?

Could you give a little more info on how exactly to set the k10 up with the white sheet please?

I like the photos you posted. Just a tad bit of motion blur for effect, but the faces still appear in focus.

But at f1.4, you are going to lose even more DOF, so it may not be all its cracked up to be. For subjects tat don't move too fast towards or away from me, (Pentax may not autofocus like a rocket, but its better than I can do manually), I love the lens.

With the 50mm f1.4 what sort of depth of field are we talking about?
Cheers for the comments on the pics , i had tested the wbalance and found the indoor light setting the least yellow , how do you tweak it? is there a manual way to set for each locations like you use to with video cameras and a sheet of white paper?

Right here are a few of my shots from a Jujitsu practice night , the light was poor orange and low in inensity , i had the stock lens on , iso dialled upto 1600 , white balance set manually and a shutter speed of around 1/60 to 1/125 whilst aperture was approc 2.8 > 4.0. The results arent great and theyve been heavily tweeked in paintshop pro.
See what you guys think but its looking like i may need the 50mm f1.4 lens?!

Hi Amoringello , cheers for posting those shots - what kind of apertures and shutter speeds and iso were you using as i think the clubs i goto will be very similar (bug mats) - depending on how that goes i may look at the sigma 17-70mm f2.8 with a strobe flash.I see your point about the 50mm and it may end being the larger lens as they fight in a cage.
I spoke to my friend today and hopefullly ill be going along next wednesday to take some test shots mainly of grappling so not to fast moving.

Thankyou everyone for your contributions , i now feel more informed and aware of what is available and relevant for my next project.
For the Dojo club night shots ill prob see how my kit and 70-300mm with studio lights go for now as i am going to be doing not only fight shots but also creative pose shots as below. If im finding im not getting the result i desire then ill know exactly what i need - ish!
For the Actual Competition shots i will be buying the 50mm f1.4 as after reading the comments posted here i did a search for boxing photography settings and the pros said this was their first choice second was the 1-70mm f2.8 but some found this wasnt fast enough in certain darker locations.
