I couldn't give a monkey's step cousin twice removed about the normal test images of charts and the queen of hearts. So I'm grateful to see some real world output. Regardless of what anyone might think is the point of all this it has really helped me and I know a couple of others who were curious about the comparison. So thanks to David for his efforts.

I tend to use fully manual mode anyway, even for fully auto lenses. I've gone for the A but I will still look for a K as I have a particular fondness for the K series. Then I can keep the one I prefer, or more likely both. Buying lenses is easy, selling them is more difficult.

Thanks for this David and to Fletcher 8 too. This is the most helpful comparison I have seen.

Quite a bit less so I jumped on it. I shall find out next week if it's a good one.

Interesting. There is a Sigma for sale here. It looks like a fair market price but it is more expensive than the Pentax A24. I might look for a £30 one to compare.

I don't want to ask him anything. Your opinion was that his review was sensible without asking him. I say his conclusion is disingenuous without asking him. I regard my opinion as valid as yours. I woudn't dream of asking you to go and justify your opinion and report back, so I am not going to.

Instead I will show you what I saw as these are taken directly from that video:

Blunty says:

'But for my money if was deciding between these two cameras whether to spend nearly A$800 or whether to spend just over A$400.....I would want to be able to justify the ridiculous expense of this (Sony RX100) camera but I think I would go for the Pentax....because it's a better value proposition.'

I would agree wholeheartedly with Blunty that for a difference of A$400 then the MX-1 is almost certainly better value.

If however the real difference were less, say A$235 for example, then I would be much, much more tempted by the RX100's better performance. So please just decide for yourself which price comparison is valid/correct/fair/unbiased/sensible/whatever. My opinion of what constitutes 'price' is based on walking into a shop and seeing how much money the shopkeeper asks you for in exchange for the goods, not some other number that has been crossed out. Others might have a different view of the definition of price.

I definitely won't be responding any more to this thread so please forgive me for ignoring any further requests you may have for me to justify my opinion.

Of course I want to hear your views Bjorn. They are useful. If the A and K are the same optical formula then I shall try the K24mm f3.5 instead. And I will keep the one I prefer. I also have the 18-55 to compare them too.

Messing about with old lenses and bargain hunting is one of the things I like about Pentax.

So it is fine to post comments praising the review. But when someone points out something that they do not like or find sensible then your message is to go and talk about it elsewhere.

I don't have to ask him whether his prices are wrong since they are displayed very clearly in the video and so are very visibly wrong. You may have put the kettle on at that point.

This is supposed to be a forum of opinions. Open mindedness means allowing, even welcoming different opinions, even if they don't always tow the party line. I will continue to buy Pentax products but I am neither lap dog nor fifth columnist. I have no more to say.

I haven't insulted the reviewer at all. I appreciate your unswerving loyalty to every last thing Pentax and your refusal to have a word spoken against them or any of their products. But to recommend the Pentax based on a completely fictitious price difference, give me strength. If he thinks that the greater IQ of the Sony, along with other factors is not worth A$235 then that's exactly what he should say and that would constitute a valid opinion. If you watch the video they actually flash up the price cards with the actual prices. I say it is disingenuous and that is based on evidence. It is clearly not a mistake, it is clearly calculated. I have not said it is underhand, merely that I do not like that kind of marketing ploy. You may choose to believe that the Pentax is actually half the price of the Sony. I don't. Others can draw their own conclusions. Nuff said.
