Canon and nikon users may give the lens higher ratings than warrented, due to the fact that thier basic "kit" lenses may distort thier expectations.
kinda like crawling out of an old yugo, into a lexus and proclaming the lexus is better than a mercedes.

I believe all those ones were done with the pentax 28-200 on a ds2.
no kids ( I usually need three vacations, one with the kids, one without the kids, and one to recover from the other two!)
thanx for the compliment Mac.

also note the purple/blue color cast....I forgot that happens, and is more pronounced with less expensive polarizers.
I seem to remember having a little more control between dark and almost black....

At 5'6" 155 lbs I was probably the smallest bouncer most people had ever seen.
didn't stop me from getting the job done.
I don't mind a smaller lighter cheaper camera, as long as the final image is sellable.
Gwyn, as for the first few posts and thier subject matter, I'd love to go into detail about getting the best of both worlds...having your cake and eating it...blah blah blah...but I got six kids running amok right now and don't have time....

my advice:
ball or pistol grips are better than video or 3way heads
snap lock legs are better than twist collar leg locks
avoid anything with too much plastic.
aluminum is best, carbon fibre if you're rich and want light weight.
manfrotto, slik, and giottos are good brands.

anything is better than nothing.

Pentax is the only system out there that doesn't force you to think like Wall street...

Pentax lets you think about building your system and skills for a lifetime.

Wall street thinkers are forced to look at thier kit in terms of "who do I have to lay off this term, to boost profits by the end of the quarter, so I can afford to pay outrageous saleries, to the latest hotshot CEO, to save my financially challenged company for the next quarter."
