Another cracking set Bill, 8, 6 and 5 in that order for me, you gave it down to a fine art now at this stage and have given everyone a benchmark to aim for 👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏

Excellent bit of "reality" shooting. I didn't realise dung flies did that. I thought they just poddled about on cow pats.
This is what I like about macro. You learn all the time.
I have seen dung flies with prey before, and have posted some shots last week, but this was the first time I've seen it actually catch a fly, and see as it drained it, it seems to stick its probiscous, into the back of the head and just suck it dry. I could see the prey's eyes draining. It was in an awful position, and I struggled to get it in focus due to the way I had to lean off balance. Loads of out of focus shots.

What an excellent set of photos they are so sharp. What equipment did you use and was it totally natural lighting or was there any flash involved
Cheers for that,
I use a K1 + bellows. + Lester A Dine 105mm macro. + a kx 800 twin flash.
Handheld in the garden.
Tbh, I dont think its possible to get some of these type of shots, without a flash.
Maybe in a studio with dead bugs and constant lighting, but not shooting outside.

Cheers
Derek

Just thinking, if its the sigma em 140 ringflash, you may need 3 layers of diffusing medium, depending on what you use.
From trial and error, i have found that you will need around 2 or 3 inches between the flash and whatever medium you use to diffuse it.
If there is anything that I can help with, feel free to ask.

Nice one, I'll give you a breakdown on mine,
The cut down coffee tin acts as a hood, it fits into the front of the ringflash, the plastic mixing bowl I just cut the bottom out of, 2 layers of that foamy packaging wrap and plenty of gaffer tape. Comment Image
