Thanks to all the jolly folk on here for the encouragement, many of whom have given me some guidance along the way.

Not bad at all, your perseverance seems to be paying off.

I really must buy an an adapter so that I can mount the 250-600mm on my Q.

Is there an adaptor on ebay for the Hubble telescope?

Great shots Dave, I must have a go my self some time.

What bird was it and where did you take it?
It's a Red backed Shrike, John. Probably a juvenile or young female blown off course on it's way back to Africa. It was on West Canvey Marsh, Essex. Been a couple around here this week. Quite photogenic.

I'm persevering with this using the Q with the 300mm DA*. It requires the "right" kind of bird, i.e one that remains fairly static. These are more or less uncropped and about 15 metres away, roughly. Very tricky focusing and a low success rate but not bad.

I entered my first ever proper photographic competition on Saturday. It was at a large Essex Country Show, the Orsett Show. Much to my amazement I won first prize in the category "Reflections" and second in "Night shot". I suppose there were about forty entries in each category. Am I now a professional as the first prize was £3 and a blue rosette and second prize was £2 and a red rosette (preferable)!

Fantastic shot well deserved. Trumps my winning first prize in the Orsett Show this weekend but I did win £3

It does raise some interesting problems. I took this by coincidence around the same time and came to the conclusion it was a bit uninteresting. So how could you make a spider shot interesting? After all this is outside and does have a web. i suppose if it had some prey. I have seen some results with focus stacking that seem to give a certain extra impact.
Any suggestions?
