Fran really enjoyed playing with my K3 and her K3 will be delivered on Wednesday from SRS. So, we will both get to shoot with the K3 this weekend at the RAC Rally. I was going to sell my other K5lls, but we have both decided to keep the other two K5llS's that we have, so we have a back up camera each.

I'd have thought they are ok, especially as there is a degree of predictability. The case against I guess is related to the slowness (relative to other makes) of AF especially when tracking.
With relativeley large objects moving in a predictable direction I'm sure Pentax can now cope. Where it struggles is trying to pick up a small object moving more unpredictably and quite fast. Especially if the distance change is large, there is a lot of hunting. Of course I am referring to birds in flight and a very stretching scenario for any camera. But it is easier with other makes, I can vouch for that.

I am little confused about this as I can open a K-3 DNG file downloaded from Imaging Resource with no issues in Adobe Camera RAW and can then import it into CS3 with no problems at all.

I opened and edited the K3 .DNG file downloaded from IR in Elements 10, Irfanview and Fastone Viewer as per my current K30 .DNG files.

Well I'm going to wait for the dust to settle because looking around there seems to be mixed messages coming out at the moment. Some of this is because many people, probably unwittingly, emphasise the factors which are important to their type of photography and minimise those which are not as relevant. The trend, not surprisingly, seems to be erring towards those who have gone and bought one thinking it is a big improvement to those who have recently bought the difficult to beat K5 ii's less enthusiastic.! It's all good fun and things will become clearer in the next few weeks and judgement should be easier for each individual.

It has suddenly gone a bit one sided! From what I've read and seen I am more likely (although not definitely)going to skip K5 from my K30 and go straight to K3 but will wait for more info. As a wildlife shooter there didn't seem any massive advantage to a K5 over a K30 except the quieter shutter. Having read the overview I am amazed how much new stuff is packed into the K3. There must have been a massive amount of R&D to make so many big jumps in the time. I would say the most changes between two consecutive DSLR releases. Of course this does not necessarily translate into easier use or better IQ so I will bide my time and wait for things to unfold.

Depends if you use ISO 6400 and higher? I don't.
Given that you don't need to crop as much for the same view, I was hoping this would cancel out any increased noise

This is one of the key points for the wildlife snappers amongst us who can be heavy croppers! The AF is looking promising but even a K5 shows noise at ISO 400 at a 100% crop. As long as the K3 is no worse for the same size cropped image say up to ISO 1600 I think we would be happy.

Many, many users agree.

When they release it,I can see it being one of the fastest sellers during the first 12 months and Ricoh being unable to fulfil the market demand.

Well I am looking to seeing everyone's pics and hearing about that AF and everything else from the real reviewers - the ones on here!

It's unlikely that Ricoh will produce a TC with the K-3
coming out. From 24MP you could crop half of the frame and
still be left with a highly usable 12MP file...
so no need for a TC

My Jessops 1.7x never comes off the 55-300mm
with the K-5.

It is true but you can never have too much reach with birding. Just found the other thread when you discussed the relative performances, ta,
