It actually looks pretty cool in some of those colours.

Looks like a Dulux advert to me. No camo?

Super macro. As someone else said - great area, especially if you are into wildlife photography.

I have to say I haven't noticed much difference with AF from my K30. I really don't have much luck with any birds that suddenly appear in flight. Still can't find them initially and by then of course they are often gone. I have found that when it does lock on it does track better though. Otherwise it's ok with my DA* 300. Others on here have more success so I may have a slight problem with camera or lens but when it is right it can be fantastic. I had the K-r before and would definitely upgrade because except for AF (which is ok) it is brilliant.

Edit: - David's comments hadn't appeared when I sent this! But you see what I mean. He knows mine doesn't seem quite as good as his and perhaps we'll get together some time to see if I have a fault with my lens or camera, I am just bad at using it (I'm older!) or David has a better copy.

Don't get me wrong David. I do think the K3 is better and great! I was just surprised at comments calling the K30 mediocre which it distinctly wasn't for me! I didn't have a K5 and also haven't been able to compare side by side as you have so your view is a bit more objective. I admit I haven't had the focus improvements you have.
As for you having a better copy - you always seem to have a better copy of your cameras judging by your images

P.S I probably should have said "casual observer" than "average viewer"

Elsewhere someone else rubbished the K30 and K50. This got me thinking back to my K30 and comparing it to my now 9 month old K3.
I don't expect a camera costing over twice as much to be twice as good. Diminishing returns don't work like that. Having come via the Km, Kx, Kr route I still feel the jump to the K30 was the biggest leap.(I never owned the excellent K5 series). The focusing, resolution, high ISO performance and weather sealing were clear and large improvements on previous models. So where does that leave the K3. The main advantages to me are the more sophisticated and extra control options, (like top dial, rear IR remote to name but a couple),twin SD cards, more detail in the images, more mp for cropping and marginally improved AF and tracking (which is still poor in my opinion). These do come at a bit of a cost, or at least no improvement. High ISO is about the same as is dynamic Range although I'm not convinced yet that it's not marginally worse. It is of course much bigger and heavier and I've never enjoyed the position of the back button focus compared to the K30.
So it is a better camera without doubt to me but I believe the K30 was excellent as well, especially in terms of value for money and to be honest, the average viewer would be hard pushed to distinguish between my best shots with either camera.

Another false entry into the market. Hot on the heels of other very mediocre cameras over the past three years. K-30 K-50 K-500 All introduced to entice new Pentax users to the brand. All spectacularly failed. What they need in my opinion is a professional high end offering...

I'd personally take issue that the K30 and K50 are/were mediocre. Weather Sealed and Pentaprism at an extremely low (now) price just for starters.
Low noise beaters against opposition at the time as well.

Had to smile. You forgot that despite Pentax calling it "Mid-Class" DPR straight away adopted "Entry Level"
With those lights though I am tempted to grade it "No Class" !

At least the LED's, which have limited function, can be turned off.

Officially announced now and "hands on" on DPR for what it's worth. Can't get that excited but if the price eventually drops below a used K30 might be useful for a second small lightweight body.
