Just out of interest David was the noise Jpeg or RAW derived or did they even say?
They didn't say on the comparison table, I think they were Raw shots as the Overall review said, "Not really being able to keep pace with the stiff competition from the Nikon and Canon, on the Pentax K7 Noise starts to show at ISO 800. That said, JPEGS processed by the camera and printed are usable up to ISO 1600, but with a heavy build up of Noise and image degradation results at higher sensitivities like ISO 3200/6400 aren't good at all".

If you buy the magazine you can judge the Image Quality Comparison Table between the K7, EOS 7D and D300S as unfortunately the link that I provided with my first message doesn't show these pages.

I totally agree with the above comments, my Dad and I are both very happy with the performance of our K7's and feel it was money well spent upgrading from the K10D. Digital Photo magazine have done an image quality comparison table of metering, detail, skin tones and noise between the 3 cameras. They wrote in overall summary that "there were no complaints about the K7's accurate metering system and the 14.6Mp sensor makes sharp, large A2 prints a reality. On the downside though the colours can be inconsistent and shots at higher ISOs display a lot of noise." Of course, surprise surprise, the Canon EOS7D got top marks on the ratings.

There's a mid-range DSLR group test between the K7, Canon EOS 7D and Nikon D300S in the February issue of Digital Photo magazine. Whilst the K7 came in 3rd place, the EOS 7D came 1st, the magazine did say it was a solid & robust DSLR at a competitive price. The feature set is excellent and if your looking to upgrade from a K10 or K1000D its a very good choice. Unfortunately with the tough competition from Nikon and Canon the K7 can't live with the performance and image quality benchmarks laid down by the market leaders.

Thanks for the link, I did see that on the Adobe site but it didn't state if it was for PSE7 so decided to stick with the 5.5 version which did say it was for PSE7. The K7 PEF files now load up ok through PSE7 and there's no problem with Picasa3 anymore so I'll switch my camera back from DNG to PEF.

Just downloaded the latest Camera Raw 5.5 update from Adobe for Elements 7 and now the PEF files load up fine through Camera Raw and no more pink tinge when looking at the PEF files through Picasa 3.

Thanks for the link, I've just ordered the Hama microphone for my K7. http://www.keene.co.uk/electronic/hama/hama-rmz14-stereo-microphone/RMZ14.html

I chose this one mainly due to it being more cheaper than the Rode microphone, which is a bit if a cop-out I know, but most of the time I'll be taking stills rather than video with the K7.

Thanks for the info re:mics. I've just found this one on play.com and it looks a good mic so I'll probably order this one for the K7.

Aha very good that one But I can assure you the Liveview on the K7 is a seriously good new tool. Incidentally can anyone tell me where I can get good external microphone for the K7. I've looked in the Comet and Currys shop where I live and they don't seem to sell many and the mics that they have got in the shop when I've asked the shop staff if it's compatible with the K7 the staff give me the "dunno know" answer, which is really handy, not! lol

The ISO button on the K7 is handy and saves the need of going through the menu options, Live View and of course the HD video I've found great improvements from the K10.

Yep I've found this problem when I upgraded from K10 to the K7. Took some photos on RAW PEF then when I uploaded on the PC, when I first viewed them through Picasa 3 the photos would get a pink tinge to them. Then when I tried to load up the photos through Camera Raw option on Elements 7 a message popped up saying unable to load as file is wrong type. I've now changed my Raw settings from PEF to DNG and it works fine now.
