What new toys on your K7 have you found usefull

I am currently wading through my K7 manual and keep finding new functions that did not exist on my K10D, for instance time lapse photography and a mirror lock up function, video, HDR and a focus trigger. This had me wondering how people have customised it and what new functions they have tried, what was a total gimmick and what is very useful.

The mirror lock up is the same as in the K10D right???
It's under the 2 second delay...

Some of these are on the K20D, such as the time-lapse feature (which I have used once). It is a shame that what are essentially software innovations are never included in the firmware updates of earlier models. I guess it is one way of making people want to upgrade...

A bit off-topic, but a useful feature of the K20D that wasn't (I think) on the K10D is the setting to take all the bracketed exposures with one push of the shutter button.

As a result of the K10 and K20 being so similar I never read through the manual and as a result find things out about the K20 by accident!

Yep your spot on Stefan as ever. I feel as though it is more accessible on the K7 especially with the Live view function at hand, It's so hard getting wildlife to hang around for two seconds.

No it wasn't, that was one of the function I was jealous of Kris

On the Dutch forum someone has successfully installed the k20D firmware on the K10D... I didn't went into details, some options worked and others not. Also the way you need to install it is complicated.
The K10D must be in service mode and then the K20D firmware must be forcefully installed.

I wish they make the firmware available for public so taht we can have a play and port for example some function over from the K20d to the K10D.

It sounds like a small thing but I really like the button on the top of the K7 which I can hold down and then adjust ISO with a thumbwheel rather than having to go into the function menu through the back of the camera.

Simple pleasures!

Yeah I know the K10D pretty well now after 1.5 years and trying to make some sense of the firmware, there are some lines about ISO50 and ISo6400 for example... I couldn't find out where these where blocked though.

OK button on the K10D and K20D does the same thing...

Okay I'll stop now

another advantage of the K20D over the K10D is the ability to finetune the focus of individual lenses instead of only a single adjustment for all lenses hidden in the debug menu.

Auto horizon correction or the level (take your pick ), 100% view finder (OK not a function but great to see all you will capture), HDR function is actually pretty good especially setting 1, I'm using that more and more. Live view on the K-7 is excellent and a real plus for macro work.
I'm sure there is more but I've had a beer

Having skipped from K10 to K7 I have not looked very deeply into what functions were on the K20. Your are right Kris to bracket a shot I had to press the shutter for each image.

One thing I have really enjoyed so far is the speed between individual shots, especially when bracketing images. One thing that has driven me round the bend is having to press the OK button before adjusting the selective focus position. I could do this with gloves on with my K10 and in temperatures of -6 I have now suffered for my art.

The ISO button on the K7 is handy and saves the need of going through the menu options, Live View and of course the HD video I've found great improvements from the K10.

Menu? whats that As my K10/20D are almost permanantly in Av, I have the front command dial set to adjust ISO

What I am envious of on the K7 is the dedicated liveview button

Aha very good that one But I can assure you the Liveview on the K7 is a seriously good new tool. Incidentally can anyone tell me where I can get good external microphone for the K7. I've looked in the Comet and Currys shop where I live and they don't seem to sell many and the mics that they have got in the shop when I've asked the shop staff if it's compatible with the K7 the staff give me the "dunno know" answer, which is really handy, not! lol
