Hiya, absolutely right, I certainly didn't intend to "dis" ebay; they were brilliant about it; I will definitely continue to use ebay, for sure; I have bought and sold quite a lot on there and never had any need to pursue a refund, until now, and ebay resolved it immediately.....and I also agree with your comment on checking out the seller, which I always do; and in this case I think they genuinely didn't realise the issues, and didn't intend to mislead. I certainly won't be leaving bad feedback for them.
So all in all one to put down to bad luck more than anything.
And thanks for the comment,
PS: Nigel...I will, thanks.
Regards, Dave.

I have returned the camera and received a full refund; there were other, none technical issues with the camera, and when I did get to compare image quality, with that of my K100d, there was a marked lack of "sharpness" to the K10 images. That despite gradually "maxing" the in camera setting.
Anyway, what with that, and the other bits and pieces, I called time.
Many thanks to all those who helped and advised, but for me, and my upgrade....the search continues!
Regards, Dave.

I should say at this stage (and you'll probably say it serves me right!), that I bought this camera on ebay.................I know, I know, but I thought at just over a ton, it was a decent upgrade to my K100d, which I love.
Anyway, I digress;
So, as per the advice I have reinstalled the firmware; it was 1.30, now it's 1.31..........nothing has changed; so when I pop the on board flash up the camera will not focus, or, it seems, do anything else. As soon as I close the flash, bingo, fine and dandy, everything appears to do exactly what it should do..........through all the different "programs" Av, Tv, M etc etc.
I have a Pentax AF330FTZ flash, and if I put that onto the hotshoe, and set to X program it's working and triggers fine (though I have to manually set the aperture, which I think is....normal?). If I use the flash on any other program than X, it seems to have a fixed shutter speed of 1/60th and everything is overexposed..........but I think I just need to read the manual!!
And thats where, once again, I'd like to thank everyone for taking the time and trouble to help a poor old fella....in his time of need!! Thank you............Once I progress things via the manual with the 330FTZ, I'll let you know. Unless anyone can think of anything else? Someone suggested it could be an "inadequate" battery, so I have ordered a new one to eliminate this possibility....other than that, I might just have to accept I bought a bit of a pup..................albeit one that still wags it's tail, but has a little less "spark" than it should;
Thanks again, Dave.

Make sure the battery is fully charged firstly. If there's a power issue then the flash charging could wipe out any power for anything else....
And just to confirm ,... are you saying that everything works OK when the flash is not raised?
