Don't forget US sales tax. I used to travel to the USA a lot on business, my memory is that it was added at point of sale. The rate varies from state to state, but is 4.5% in New York, which would bring the sterling equivalent to very close to the UK price including VAT.

And on a cheerier note - Who's a lucky womble, then??

Yes of course, I was thinking of the handful of zero sales tax states, the lucky few.

Doing my bit to subsidise later price reductions and also the development costs of the K-1iii!
There is certainly scope for a UK price reduction or discounts when the initial sales rush slows down, when you compare the US price of $1,999. That's equivalent to £1,750 to £1,800 after allowing for this year's range of exchange rates and adding VAT. Though other factors will of course affect prices too.

Image Sync app on a phone will give equivalent of a flippy screen, and could be more versatile/convenient, and it appears that the latest update can automatically transfer GPS data to the camera.
Although I think the lack of a flippy screen is a mistake for the k3III, I agree with what you say here.

I do most of my photography on a tripod, where a phone linked through the app will be more versatile than a movable screen attached to the camera, and will give the GPS data too.

But there are plenty on forums who do a lot of handheld high/low shots and the phone option won't help them much
Getting down and dirty plus a bit of intelligent guesswork for the high shots will though, the mark of a true and determined Pentaxian!

Leaving off the flippy screen is just madness in my opinion. If it's down to size then that's just millimeters, it would make no real difference at all. If it's down to cost then it's just penny pinching.

I'm not bothered either way but to my way of thinking RIcoh have lost a lot of potential customers because if you really wanted the flippy screen then you aren't going to buy this camera whereas if it were on the camera to begin with no one is really going to not buy it because they dislike them THAT much.
It's size *and* cost surely - it would probably have pushed the price over two grand. A tilting or flippy screen is also one more thing to get damaged or let in moisture in what's intended to be a fairly rugged go-anywhere camera.

I can't remember the last time I even used my K-5 or K-3 screen to compose photos, I use the viewfinder exclusively, whatever body contortions are needed to see. So a fixed screen doesn't bother me and it keeps the price down just enough to get me interested.

The phone connectivity may be useful though, for taking photos over heads, high fences and birds or animals from a hide or even my house, camera out in the garden. I'm sure other uses will emerge too. Price apart, I'm sold on it so it's just a question of when to bite. I quite like the idea of a silver one too, haven't had one of them since my old and long-lived MX!

ALL major Pentax dealers are offering the KP £699 price after available temporary discounts, so why is Pentax User News section only promoting the Amazon offer? It's not a good policy!

Lots of interesting information in there. Can't find them on the website yet though.

What kind of delivery service should I expect?
I ordered a 60-250 with free 2-3 days delivery and they sent it by Parcelforce Express 24 anyway. Excellent.

Just picked up a DA* 200mm for £599 from Jessops (mail order only) but oddly, the lens disappeared from their website literally minutes after I ordered it earlier today, and soon after from camerapricebuster where I first discovered it, never seen that happen before and wondered if they'd cancel but no, I've had a delivery email now.

Strange, but thought I would mention it in case it's a temporary glitch.

K1 and 15-30mm. 47 MB!
Thanks for posting this, Firefox just asked if I wanted to open it with Paint Shop Pro... job done. Far more useful than opening it within a browser anyway. I am impressed by the detail in the background brickwork, moreso on the jpeg (surprise!) as there are some odd artifacts in the DNG, with PSP and in LR 5. That looks to be a great lens-camera combination though.

On the other hand, 44.7MB file size on my PC, it shrunk or you are using true MBs, unlike Windows!
