Some lenses, such as the DA 55-300 (but not the optically identical, but less expensive DAL version), and the DA17-70, allow you to move the focus ring manually even when the camera is set to AF.

This means you can adjust the focus after the AF has acted, or, more usefully IMO, you can manually move the focus ring close to where the AF will put it.

Lenses without QS won't let you move the focus ring without it rotating the whole screw drive, including the AF motor in the camera. This is a) much more difficult, and b) generally thought of as a practice not to be encouraged.
I see , Thanks for your reply

Yep - as Womble says - it will work fine in the automatic modes when it is set to 'A' on the lens ring. You have to set the lens length selector to "50mm" when you connect the lens (the camera prompts you for this info), but after that it can work out shake reduction, programs, etc.
Ok. If nobody beats me to it and you pm me your Paypal details i'll pay it early tomorrow morning (Pay day)

Price reduction - How about £29.95 (plus P&P)
Mate . How would this work on a K-r ? Am i correct in saying manual focus ? Would it have to be used in manual mode only ?
I'm after a cheap prime just to try one out
Manual focus yes, but as it is an A series lens it will work with the various auto exposure modes.

K.
So it'd be fine in Aperture mode ?
