It's odd that you haven't had more responses to this, dr.

Your situation has obviously led you to a little soul searching and retrospection. It's said to you that the most important things to you are your family, and the photos you have taken are a remembrance of the changes that have occurred over that time. Of course, who wouldn't feel that way, but it's great to be reminded of what's most important.

The decision you have taken, I know, has not been taken lightly. I really hope that you manage to do exactly as you want in the UK, that your kids get the educaton they need, and that you get your arse back to France as soon as you can after that!

Agreed. I guess my K28/3.5 is one of my most used lenses. It's a brilliant thing.

M50/1.7 is pretty good. The K55/1.8 is better, imho. I got a copy from ebay for 25 euros, so they can be fantastic value. Put that with the K28/3.5 and you won't go wrong.

I have recently bought this lens and, for the price, it's a good'un. Nice and sharp.

Please stop this thread. I need a lot of good publicity about the K-3,so I can pick up a K-5ii (perhaps s) at a rock bottom price. This discussion is going to push the prices back up

Ah, ok.

What about the difference at, say, ISO800?

Depends if you use ISO 6400 and higher? I don't.
No, I don't, but I was only replying to what Dave K said, when he said that the noise was worse than the K5. If it's only worse at ISO 6400 and above, then it doesn't matter, but if it's worse at low ISOs then it does (to me).

Of course, I'll wait for a definitive comparison.....especially as I haven't the cash for either yet!

If the noise is really worse, then that's a killer for me. Looks like when I upgrade from my K-r it will be to a version of the K5. Fast AF and low light AF aren't that important to me. I'd save some pennies too!

I used to have a DA17-70. But as soon as I got myself a K28/3.5 I realised the 17-70 had much poorer IQ. Now I know some people swear by it, but I realised it wasn't for me. I have since acquired a K35/3.5 and a K55/1.8, and have more than a hundred quid spare from the 17-70 price.

For me, the 17-70 wasn't great at the wide end, and I now have a Sigma 10-20 which, although hasn't the IQ of the Ks, is pretty handy.

Because of the lack of AF in my range before 100mm, I was considering an FA43. because of the cost, I've bought a stop-gap F35-70 for a walkaround lens, and it is surprisingly good for the price.

When it comes down to it, it does depend on what type of shots you want to take and, also, how you approach your photography.
