Good to be reminded - lighting is everything.
Oh... back to the original angle too, which helps the relief and composition.
This is about 20x macro I think. DOF 1/3rd mm

Thanks, I didn't doubt there would be a price of some sort, I wouldn't do it if it wasn't benefiting the author somehow

Lighting: hmm.
Sharpness: Where?
Tried flash this time, instead of a great big sunny window. Looks like I need to diffuse it somewhat It just picks out all the crystals or tiny facets.
I think the the cheap 2x convertor is solely responsible for trashing the sharpness, either through not passing the resolution, or just being a bit crap
100mm extension, 2x convertor, 100mm macro - f5.6, 28mm reversed - f2.8

The only lens able to resolve the detail onto that tiny sensor was the 100mm macro on about 100mm of extension tubes.

Think I prefer the first one. It looked inside out to me too at first then my eyes adjusted and now I only see the letters raised as they should be.
However, I'm always impressed by the m50 1.7 - that is one hell of a piece of glass. The stuff I have put mine through and it still manages to resolve fine detail even when only 1/30th of the image circle is being utilised for the 16mp image.
I would be interested to discover if it is actually a high-resolving lens in the real world, or whether I just work better with it.
