After these positive comments I have spent a few more minutes tweaking it and decided to leave it at this:

Thanks Amin, decided to go with the wide shot.

It's funny, I am still aching now, after lunging into their path and rolling over backwards to follow them through
Next week I'll take the easy route and follow them on my own board. Hopefully the effect will be similar to the Morris Minor portrait.

I like the wide shot but was worried about the amount of tarmac etc.
His hand IS on the ground but it has a plastic slider which may account for the shadow and there is a motion blur going in the wrong direction, caused either by me panning too fast or him moving his hand.
It was a fish eye shot (if I had to have one lens, it would be this one ). so he was very, very close. resulting in some weird panning anomalies.
All manual, precisely the same discipline as nightclub shoots. The Metz was a gem - I helped it to cover the fisheye FOV and soften the light a little by firing it into a white reflector.

Here's the boss and event organiser Stewart Lees.
Not sure if I should go wider? (I have a fair amount each side)
I like the angle but I wonder if the leaning chimneys ruin the effect?

I'm sure it was fine yesterday but now there is a strange flat halo around the chimney. Is it just my machine having a wobbly?

The others lack a focal point for your eye to sit on, or be lead to.
1,3 and 4 are leaning to the right, 4 is very close but it was the first one I noticed due to the strong verticals and horizon.
