I know how watches work I really wanted to know because tele's are really expensive, theres no point in buying one if i can get a decently priced zoom that would pretty much do the same thing. I mainly take pictures of landscapes and nature, sometimes the odd random picture that only happens once every 100 years.

My next buy will be a wide angle and maybe a longer zoom.

By the way, has anybody got any pictures of the same thing taken with a telephoto at X focal length and a zoom at x focal length, just like to see what it really looks like,

cheers

aah right, so really there isn't THAT much difference, unless you want to be all technical. Photography is just a hobby to me I'm not planning on being professional, so thanks to you all for the help I know a little bit more and the rest will come with practice

cheers

well, you can all call me stupid and what not, but I couldnt be anymore confused if i tried. I think i'm more confused now than when i started.

i know about the perspective things, if your up close and take a photo everything have a bit more perspective, but if you go backwards then zoom in the photographed object in the previous picture and make it the same size then things liik different

ok to put it simply, zoom lenses are variable but telephotos are fixed (unless it has a large starting focal length that gets bigger then it would be a tele-zoom) and the finished visual picture isnt any different.

eg. a zoom lens that has a maximum length of 100mm (lets say its minimun is 50mm for arguements sake) the picture taken with this lens at full zoom (100mm) would look exactly the same as a telephoto lens at 100mm.

Is that anything close or am i way off the mark?

I'm full of questions, it's the only way to learn, so please bear with me

A full moon will be coming round again next week, around thursday.

The best lens i have for moon photography is the 70-210mm lens. The last time I tried, the shutter speed display showed UNDER and it was exposed for a long time. That was with the f stop at 4, the smallest it goes.

Do you have any ideas what i can do with this equipment or should i not bother
