I don't even have a black blanket, the closest thing i have a bed sheets, that arn't really that dark, although i do have a blanket that has white skulls over it, maybe a bit of photoshop might help.

What kind of lights would be good? I assume flash is out of the question

Now that i have an actual pentax camera, i can now start taking part in the competitions, I had the idea that if i can start taking pictures that look decent i would be learning new things, but i cant seem to get the results everyone else does, especially with this low key thing.

I have a camera, a couple of lenses and a tripod, and that's it.

Can anyone help me with low key? things i need etc...

got it, "slow shutter speed noise reduction" (feel kinds stupid now that i think about it ), how does that affect the quality of the pictures?

I live in the UK but also own a K2000 (US version of the K-m) and on the odd occassion have had the same problem. I've found the problem most commonly occurs in low light or close up situations. Try changing it to manual focus, this sometimes overides the non-response problem.
I've noticed this too, especially when something is too close to focus in on.

And the weather deal, I live in finland and my k2000 happily worked for me at minus 20 celcius (or -4 fahrenheit, I was using energizer lithium batteries at the time ) It does say in the batteries section of the manual what kind of batteries work best.

I'm not sure if this is a general thing that happens with the camera or the memory card. When the exposure time is long it takes just as long to save the picture eg. if the exposure time is 20 seconds it take another 20 seconds to save it before i can take another picture. Why is this?
cheers

I'll have a go at cropping no 4, but I wanted reflection and that sky there. I'm open to experimenting
