I've never used these two macros...The focusing goes down to 1:1 which is a bonus.
Being super-picky, and a bit of a pedant at heart , I'd like to point out that for a lens to be a true 'macro' lens, the magnification has to be at least 1:1. Macro means life-size, anything below 1:1 is not life-size.

So the lenses with 'Macro 1:4' are way short of the mark!

Don't you call me darling! But if you're making one, I'll have the same.

Perhaps I would have to give it a bit more time, but I've just not got on with Silkypix, just doesn't seem to work for me, and like you, I've got comfortable with the C1 workflow.

Between you and me, I reckon Matt's somehow on commission with all the RAW convertor people - we all suspected it when he raved about C1, now he's doing it with Silkypix... Just you wait 'til C1 version 4 comes out, "Ooh, the best thing since sliced bread, forget Silkypix", you mark my words.

Matt, the scheduled release date for C1LE v4 is early 2007, Pro version late Q2, so I will probably hang on and use Pentax Lab 'til then (or process the RAW files in camera! )

Not that I've ordered my K10D yet.

George, if I feel I need help with my execrables, I'll know where to look!

Okay, had a bit more of a play with it today.

First, thumbnail view and all that - I was opening images singly, using the 'open image' icon, not the 'open folder' icon, hence the reason I was a little confused.

Matt, I had been playing with the different film types already - the sunset shot was using V2. I'm just not finding many 'looks' that I like. When I compare C1 output to Silkypix, I just prefer the look of the C1.

Obviously, it suits you better than it does me!

I think I'll be sticking with C1. One thing this has helped me with though, is that I've been playing more with the colour controls in C1, and have learned a bit more about it. I was trying to replicate the sunset shot I'd first tried, and although I didn't get the same colours I did with Silkypix, when I compare the two, again, I prefer C1.

At the moment too, Silkypix is putting folders here, there and everywhere on my computer (well, anywhere I open an image from), which I find annoying. And that flashing highlight warning!

Oh well, each to their own.

Hi Brian,

Yeah, saw those, didn't realise (unless I'm mistaken) that you have to open several pics to see thumbnails of them, thought it might show a whole folders worth like C1. Seems a bit memory hungry to me too.

Mixed first impressions, I have to say. Just had a quick play with Noise Reduction, obviously I was a bit heavy handed 'cos I quickly turned my shot into a watercolour.

Anyway, can't stop, already late for Bass playing with my brother.

I haven't touched Capture One since installing Silkypix, and I now find it much easier to get rich and warm colours out of my *ist-D RAW files. And the apparent resolution has increased tremendously using their "Pure Detail" sharpening along with the noise reduction.
I'm guessing he likes it!

I've just downloaded it myself, and had a quick play around. Having just got used to the C1 workflow, I find it quite odd. Matt, something that stood out from your comment "It's so much easier getting the exposure absolutely right having the histogram with RGB as well as luminance", am I missing something (other than the solid colours for the RGB histogram on Silkypix), as I can see RGB as well as luminance on C1, you just need to select the option under preferences.

So far, I've managed to get very saturated and punchy images, which works for this image:

But on others, notably neutral toned toadstools, I find it quite over-powering.

Am I also right in thinking there's no way of having thumbnails from a whole folder on view, as in C1? Couldn't find it, but then perhaps I should read the manual.

I think it may be something I toy with, but what impressed me with C1 over Pentax Lab was the natural looking tones, not over-warm (this from an ex-Velvia user!), and I'm having trouble getting a look that I like. Other than that sunset, obviously.

Plus, I've not long shelled out for C1, so I'm reluctant to buy something else so soon, especially as we've got version 4 coming soon.

Betty,

Just rang Head Office, spoke to reception, asked for the email address of Theresa Wilde, the Personnel and Customer Service Director (found details of management team here - http://www.jessops.com/corporate/management.asp.

It's: t wilde at jessops.com

but without the spaces, and an @ instead of 'at'.

I would imagine the address of the other members of the management team would follow the same format - initial and surname.

Good luck!

Betty,

I hope you're getting a K100 (or 110 at least) after all this. Seeing as the DL2 is now discontinued, I think it's the least they could do, you've put up with a lot of messing about - am I right you've been without a camera since August?

If so, that's nearly 3 months! The initial delay was down to Jessops, and Pentax don't seem to have exactly busted a gut to get you sorted. But, it's down to the seller to get it sorted for you.

Just had a look at the jessops website (well tried to anyway, jessops.com seems to be having a little trouble at the moment), found http://jessops-uk.co.uk/jessops.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=45&Itemid=66, which just seems a bit odd to be honest. Not entirely sure it's a proper Jessops website - especially like the phrase, near the bottom of the page, under 'About Jessops':

"In 2004, the main warehouse was relocated to Weedon, Northamptonshire as the warehouse in Leicester was considered too small. This resulted in most of the staff being made redundant."

P.R. eh? Where would we be without it?

Good luck Betty,
Dan

It would actually give the same field of view as a 42mm-112mm zoom would for 35mm film. Depends really what subjects you're taking, but I, and many others, prefer a much wider angle, such as that given by the 18-55, 16-45 lenses etc. I've gone for the 16-45mm, but I can see the attraction for George.
