Conceptually yes you just take several shots and blend them in PS. In practice it can be quite hard to get this to look right, I've only pulled it off to my satisfaction a couple of times.
But not at all difficult to get the same effect as an ND Grad, which will just have a feathered straight edge between the 'sky' and 'land'.

Yeah, but think of all the shots you'll miss when you're changing the memory card every 7 shots.

But, of course, the images would be going straight to the laptop wirelessly...

Shooting 10 pictures within 1/2 second while mirror up for choosing the right image from a series, no more "missed moments.
Just makes me think "10 times the number of shots to sort through!"

Oh, and ten times the storage...

Edit; I have been using a borrowed Nikon D70 which gives quite nice images, but the camera itself is a clumsy and poorly deigned 'plastic blob' which requires constant 'cockpit checks' to determine that the myriads of menus and 'settings' are all still the same and that it's me actually making the images!
Either Nikons are wildly different from Pentaxes, or you're just not used to a digital SLR - why the need to constantly check the "myriads of menus and 'settings'"? You set the camera up as you want it, then you control shutter speed and aperture as required, exactly the same (technically, I know the actual means will be different) to the way you do it with you film cameras.

The only time I use the menu on my *istD is to format the cards or clean the sensor. I honestly can't think of any other time that I do.

If you ever want to meet up to discuss what the various settings do, why they're there and how you can simply set them, forget them and get on with taking your photos, I'd be only too happy. I realise DSLRs are not the way you want them to be, but I don't think they're nearly as bad as you think.

I got one (a PKA mount) from MXV a year and a half ago - for £18.

They've only got a PK one now though.

Your wife could carry round the Mz-5n too, to see what compositions would work, then crop the digital shot in 'photoshop'. Or, a somewhat less bulky option would be to have a piece of card with a letterbox cut out for her to use as a 'viewfinder' - she can see what shots would work using the crad, then compose with the camera.

Best thing though is, as Don said, to learn to visualise where the crop needs to be.

I've done a fair view 'stitched' panoramics with my D, and use a 50mm lens, with the camera mounted vertically on a Manfrotto 488 tripod head. It's not the quickest method of shooting, and there's a fair amount of processing to do afterwards. Probably not what your wife is after, but if it is, I would strongly adivse getting a hot-shoe mounted spirit level to make sure you don't end up with a sloping horizon.

Made me wonder whether this shouldn't have been linked to on the Sigma website until 1st April, just looks too huge to do anything with.

Just seen this..

Good job it's got that handle on top!

Might put it on my Christmas list, can never usually think of something I want.

Anyway, since I will not pay for something I cannot get, I am on the 512mbs package which in turn carries a limit of 2GB download per month and even that is subject to "reasonable useage" conditions.
2Gb should allow you to download about 20,000 of the jpegs that we tend to get on here. Sometimes they're bigger files, but you'd still get 4,000 of the largest you're likely to find here.

I wouldn't worry too much about exceeding your limit, unless you download a lot of TV programmes too.

[quote="LiamD"]...critique welcome, especially re. the presentation./quote]

Not too keen on the font used for 'British Wildlife' myself - seems a bit at odds with the subject, and the other fonts used. Perhaps it's the traditionalist in me, but the bottom fonts look more suited to me.
