Comment by cpgcolin posted on M42 - K Lens Adapter applied to the *ist DS at 05/04/2005 - 10:08
Matt and Bavid, I think ( ) that the answer is yes, but could you confirm that C1 works happily with *ist DS RAW Files. I'd find it odd if Pentax's RAW format differed between these models, .... but then again .... !?
I'm trying to source C1 and found it in Warehouse Express:
http://www.warehouseexpress.com/index.cfm?http://www.warehouseexpress.com/arouse/c1.html (all one URL)
Their C1 Supported Cameras list, for both Pro and LE, has the D but doesn't include the DS. I suspect this might just be out-of-date information but Phase One's web page at: http://www.phaseone.com/Content/Software/Camera/Camera%20support.aspx only lists the D too.

Sorry, daft question for today. Can you expand on what you meant by very useful in: .... even if this is "only" a SMC Pentax-A 50mm f2, it's still a good lens, very useful for the digital bodies .
Many thanks. Colin[/quote]

John (digikid-tv), can you expand on what you mean by the Pentax A 28-80mm 1:3.5-4.5 being soft ? You also mention Canon lens, do you use these with your Pentax kit (via adapter) ?

In a bid to broaden my knowledge ( I know , I need to get out more) I've been trawling the Pentax Lenses topic string. The general gist is that 2nd-hand Pentax is probably a better route than 3rd party lens, unless one aims for the higher-end spec of these manufacturers. Here are links to few I've read:
https://www.pentaxuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=67
https://www.pentaxuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=455
https://www.pentaxuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=946
https://www.pentaxuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=947
My questions are:
1. Apart from e-Bay, can anyone recommend sources for 2nd hand Pentax lens.
2. Has anyone found information that attempts to "league table" lens manufactures.

Just some info. I've sourced this lens online at £349

I now understand the relationship between focal length and the aperture stops in the example, thankyou.
What is the " 1: " bit all about ? It indicates a ratio to me, but of what ?

I'd be grateful if some could point me toward information about lens nomenclature. For example I don't know what 1:3.5-4.5 35-70mm acutally means.
Many thanks, Colin

Reading thread histories (no pun intended) the M42-K adapter can be happily used with the *ist D
Quick Q&A :
1. Grateful if someone could confirm the is same true with the DS model ? (if your time permits, user views welcome)
2. Could some sage kindly recommend where I can source one ?
3. How many shillings can expect to pay ? (£&p will do)
This will take a little longer, but I'd be grateful for any links that explains:
4. What a reverse adapter will "bring to the party" ?
Thanks in advance, Colin
