Does anyone know what improvements exactly have been made to the MkII 18-55?

.....I meant the same thing, really.

Which is your lens?
I've just taken delivery of an 18-55 MkII and I already have the MkI so I'll be able to do some comparisons. If I notice anything I'll let you know.

Thanks for the pointer to Photozone - useful, but disappointing reviews!
I find their reviews quite enticing. They find something to criticise about every lens, but that's only right because no lens is perfect.

You should see www.dpreview.com's review of the Pentax 16-45. That really is disappointing. They must have got a bad sample.
Sorry - I wasn't having a downer on them - I meant the review of my lens was disappointing! The reviews are excellent.

Can anyone suggest a good alternative to the Pentax 18-50 that falls under £250?

I use the term "vignetting" like Photozone.de does - to just mean any amount of light fall-off or darkening towards the corners.

The vignetting is the price you pay for the small size. Doesn't bother me much as it can be fixed with Silkypix.
I'm not sure if I'd describe the effect as vignetting - it's very gradual.

I've noticed that on my Mk I on widest angle there tends to be a drop off in light towards the corners. It showed up first on blue sky shots where the sky seems to be a deeper blue in the corners.

Will the MkII that I have on order be better?

What improvements have they made to the MkII?

As regards rudeness, a lot of people may consider it rude to join a forum for a particular brand then ask if they should purchase another, they may be a "similar" camera but they are definately different brands.
As I have previously explained, I have been using Pentax kit for over 30 years - that must surely say something about how I feel about Pentax products.

As for the 3 smilies - the saying 'many a true word spoken in jest' comes to mind. Using smilies as smokescreen for rude comments won't work with me - words carry far more weight than cartoon characters.

Finally, I was not aware that 'blasphemy' against Pentax is not allowed on this forum. In the UK freedom of speech is still highly valued. If you are 100pc confident in Pentax as a brand then you shouldn't feel threatened by comparisons with other brands.

Surely the purpose of this forum is to enable intelligent discussion between people with something in common, namely, in this case, Pentax products. It would be a bit pointless if it were only some kind of self-congratulatory organ for people with closed minds.

I meant no disrespect to those who have offered helpful replies to my question - indeed I am grateful to them.

It's a shame you had to be so rude on the other Pentax forum about people offering their opinions here for you. You also failed to understand the 3 smilies that impotentspider had on his post
I'm sorry I don't agree - three smilies or not the poster considered my question contemptible - 'daft' in fact - and I hardly think that saying so is rude - in fact I think it was rude of him/her not to offer a sensible answer to my perfectly reasonable question.

I'm considering a purchase of some considerable cost here - maybe as much as £800, which is a lot for me. It is certainly not a joke.
